Executive Director Announcement
After a very difficult decision I accepted a position with another not-for-profit organization, starting in October.
It has been a wonderful three and a half years at St. Jude’s. It is THE BEST Care Home which I have ever worked – and that’s going back since the beginning of my career in 1992. St. Jude’s is very special place and it’s not just because we are small. It’s because of our beautiful care aides who provide the most intimate of care for the frailest of folks. With loving hands they make sure elders feel safe, comfortable and special. The team of nurses at St. Jude’s is exceptional and the best I have ever worked with; both our LPNs and RNs. I cannot say enough about their level of commitment to our team. Our three ‘House physicians’ are a group of dedicated experts. Other Care Homes just do not have the same level of physician support that St. Jude’s is so accustom to. It’s our recreation, chaplain and rehab staff who really focus in on the suffering caused by loneliness, boredom and helplessness and work to alleviate that suffering though encouraging friendships and purpose. I’ve said this many times, “St. Jude’s is the only place I have ever worked where I very rarely hear a complaint about food.” This is with full credit to our cooks and dietary aides who really understand the importance of food in life. All of this work is supported by our housekeeping, laundry and maintenance staff who keep things running behind the scene. They are also our friends when our favourite shirt is missing, a cup of tea is spilled and keep our physical house strong around us.
To our elders and families, thank you for your friendship and support. You are in good hands. The leadership team – Lynn, Heidi, Kyla and Sue (I’ve been so fortunate to work with you all!) - will continue to make sure our Home is running smoothly as the Board of Directors work find a new Executive Director to continue our mission.
Good bye but not farewell.
Michele
