Jingle Bell Café

A happy buzz was in the air as friends and family crowded along the tables laded with delicious baked goods and attractive craft items... St. Jude's welcomed in the holiday season with our annual Jingle Bell Cafe on the 1st of December.

Even better attended than last year, it's always heart-warming to see the beautifully decorated baking, including cookies, cupcakes, loaves, tarts and other homemade food such as soup and pickles.
Crafts included exquisite tiny handmade gift boxes, knitted hats, leggings, mittens and socks. The Elders  made lovely decorations and art pieces. A raffle on a turkey drew attention as well, a chance to win the centerpiece of your holiday dinner! Tickets will be available at the front  desk until the Holiday Party on      December 5th when the draw is    made. Even better attended than last year, it's always heart-warming to see the beautifully decorated baking, including cookies, cupcakes, loaves, tarts as well as other homemade foods such as soup and pickles.

Coffee and tea were available, contributing to an atmosphere of social visiting and holiday greetings.

Thank you to everyone     who contributed their       time, talents and items     for sale and to                   everyone who line up       at the "cashier" table!       We have raised over $1400 this year with all proceeds will go towards recreation programming for our Elders.

“UP AND COMING”
In this zany farce, potential Prime Ministerial candidate, Philip Conway is not having a good night. While at a political conference at a Brighton hotel, he is on the verge of a full-blown sex scandal!  As if a partially clad actress in his hotel room isn’t problem enough, he is plagued by inquisitive political rivals at every turn. Meanwhile the lobby is full of press, the streets are full of protesting students, and there are rumours of an assassination plot!

We hope to see you all there. Thank you for your support

Dear Friends and Families

Our dancing club would like to invite you to join our fun group.

The Holiday Season is a time of reflection, a time to give thanks to all the people that have touched our lives in so many ways. At St. Jude’s we have so much to be thankful for, our wonderful, family, friends, volunteers, staff and especially our Elders. Our Elders have been working harder than ever preparing for this holiday season. Thank you everyone for your endless hours of fluffing greenery, crafts, clean up, support and everything in-between.  A special thank you Marie for making signs and working long hours every day for the last year preparing for our Jingle Bell Café.  Thank you Anita and Cynthia for taking the lead and running our Tuck Shop. These woman made it about so much more then selling chocolates, it’s about caring. The one to one visits and reaching out to everyone at St. Jude’s is what makes it special. A high light of 2018 is our Grandpal Program. The Grandpal program is an intergenerational program with grade five and six students at Emily Carr Elementary. The Children are wonderful, they write letters to our Elders, came trick or treating and invited us to Emily Carr for their Remembrance Day Service. What a rewarding experience to bundle up our Elders, walk to the school, and be greeted at the gate by students wanting to say hello, help in any way they could , and be introduced by the Principal as Special guests. The personalized letters, homemade cards and visits are priceless. Seeing an Elders faces light up when the kids come to visit or receiving a personalized letter or homemade card is priceless. We look forward to see you at the Jingle Bell Café and Christmas open house.

Happy Holidays to you and your loved ones

A message from Jill, our Executive Director,

Wow, is it really December already?  If seems like just yesterday that I joined the St. Jude’s community and now we are preparing for our year end celebrations!
I started my new role as Executive Director in the middle of October and it has been a busy and rewarding time as I get to know the people who live here along with their family and friends.
In mid- November, I had an opportunity to meet some family and Elders at a “meet and greet” event.  The event was well attended and the conversation lively and engaging.  It was a pleasure to meet everyone and to talk about St. Jude’s as well as my role here.  So many of you expressed your appreciation for St. Jude’s and the care our staff provide to the Residents.  As a new member of staff, I too am impressed with the staff and community that is St. Jude’s.  It’s a special place and I feel blessed to be a part of it.
December is going to be a busy time in the house!  Be sure to check out the information in this newsletter and on the recreation calendar for details.
The New Year will bring St. Jude’s into our 71st year of operation and we will continue to keep the Eden Philosophy as our guide when caring for our Elders.  Look for exciting new changes to the menu and renovations to an upstairs bathroom/spa as early 2019 improvement pursuits.
A year end letter wouldn’t be complete without a small request to consider St. Jude’s in your holiday charity giving.  It does take resources to help keep this old house feeling like a home!
And so, if I don’t get the opportunity to say so in person, please let me wish you and your loved ones a Happy Holiday Season.  Best Wishes to everyone for a good 2019!

Jill van der Linden, Executive Director

Christmas and Advent Services

I will be at St. Jude’s on Christmas Eve to share a Christmas Eve service of Holy Communion. All staff and families who are interested are welcome.

Advent Lessons and Carols service, will be offered on December 12th, which I think many of our residents will enjoy and be able to help out with. It’s an Anglican service that was very popular when many of our folks were younger.
