Second Floor Bathroom Renovation
It has been a long wait but this dream has finally become a reality! We had the Grand Opening (ribbon cutting and tea) of our Second Floor Bathroom on September 26th. Come by and check it out! A huge thank you to our donors for making this renovation possible. Your ongoing support is essential for maintaining and expanding the place that our Elders call home.
A Message from Jill, Our Executive Director
As we come to the end of another year, it is a good opportunity for me to thank all the people within the St. Jude’s community who support us and make us better.
Thank you to our volunteers for the gift of time. The activities you support, the conversations you share and the fun you bring into St. Jude’s is key to making St. Jude’s truly home for our Residents.
Thank you to our donors for providing the resources needed to keep our old house comfortable. Your funds have enhanced our physical spaces, like the new bathing room on second floor. Your donations have also provided special activities like musical and art events and holiday celebrations, all of which improve life quality for our Seniors.
I hope everyone was able to attend our Jingle Bell Café and our Elder Holiday parties. Celebrations will continue throughout the month as we wind 2019 down and bring in the new year. Check out the information about upcoming events from the Recreation department and our Chaplain in this newsletter.
In this season of giving, I hope that you will continue to support St. Jude’s by donating your time and funds. All gifts are welcome and will help make a difference for our Seniors.
Happy Holidays and all the best wishes for 2020!
Jill van der Linden
Christmas and Advent!
December is here and so is the four-week season of Advent! This is my favourite time of year – it has all the best music, and I can’t wait to share it with our residents, family members, friends, and staff.
Anglican Morning Prayer and Sunday Eucharists (Holy Communion service) continue throughout the season, and will culminate with a Christmas Eve Eucharist with harp and carols on December 24th at 3pm in the chapel.
We will have a (slightly abridged) Advent Lessons and Carols service in the chapel on December 11th at 3pm with singing, readings, harp music, and lots of opportunities for residents to participate!
We have also been invited once again to St. Mary’s, Kerrisdale for their lovely Senior’s Eucharist and tea on December 18th! December’s tea is always a real treat, with finger sandwiches, sweets, and a wee spot of sherry to make our spirits bright.
Finally, Archbishop Melissa Skelton has collected a series of reflections for use in the season of Advent that I hope to share with residents on Wednesday afternoons. So far they have been lovely, meditating on different Advent themes such as motherhood, hope, and strength.
All are welcome at any of our events! Please feel free to contact me or the recreation department for more details, and happy holidays!
