Statement by Former Minnesota District Court Judge Mary Pawlenty regarding Minnesota's Second Congressional District
Eagan, Minn. — Former Minnesota District Court Judge Mary Pawlenty announced today she has decided not to run for Congress. Pawlenty considered a run for Minnesota's Second Congressional District seat being vacated by U.S. Representative John Kline, following his surprise announcement on September 3 that he was would not seek re-election next year.
In announcing her decision, Pawlenty stated:
"I deeply appreciate the words of encouragement I received from so many people whose opinions I respect, urging me to run for Congress in the Second District. However, I am choosing to remain a Mediator, a professional who facilitates conflict resolution. Each of us can and should serve our communities in the best way we know how, and at this phase of my life my preference is to stay focused on helping people find workable and agreeable solutions to their differences."
Pawlenty mediates civil matters in affiliation with Gilbert Mediation, located in Eden Prairie, working with lawyers and their clients to settle cases both before and during litigation. Previously, Mary Pawlenty served as a Minnesota District Court Judge in the First Judicial District, an attorney in private practice and as Minnesota's First Lady.
