Three leading public affairs strategists announce new consulting firm â€“ MZA+Co
New agency to be led by former Speaker Kurt Zellers, former Pawlenty Deputy Chief of Staff Brian McClung & former Deputy Education Commissioner Chas Anderson
St. Paul, Minn. â€” Three leading public affairs strategists today announced the formation of a new consulting firm headquartered in downtown St. Paul.
The new firm â€“ MZA+Co â€“ brings together former Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers, who recently concluded his sixth term in the Minnesota House of Representatives, former gubernatorial spokesman and Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Tim Pawlenty, Brian McClung, and former Deputy Commissioner of Education and House Republican Caucus Chief of Staff Chas Anderson.
McClung, Zellers and Anderson said their new firm would help corporate, non-profit, political, and trade association clients navigate state government and public relations issues in Minnesota and around the country.
â€œThe three of us have decades of experience working on complex issues at the highest levels of state government,â€ said Zellers. â€œWe know what it takes to help shape public opinion and inspire action.â€
â€œOur new firm will offer clients exceptional high-level, hands-on support in media relations, crisis communications, grassroots and grasstops advocacy, and marketing support,â€ said McClung.
â€œOur backgrounds span the major issues at our Capitol and in other states,â€ said Anderson. â€œWhether the issue is education, energy, healthcare, transportation, or a variety of others, weâ€™ve been there when key decisions were made and we know what it takes to put together a successful advocacy initiative to make the difference.â€
McClung, Zellers and Anderson are equal partners in the new firm. McClung will also continue to serve as President of McClung Communications & Public Relations, which he founded in 2010.

Brian has spent nearly 20 years at the intersection of media, politics and business as a television reporter, campaign manager, communications strategist and PR executive. He's done award-winning work on the frontlines of some of Minnesota's biggest stories for the state's top trade groups, businesses and political organizations, including serving 6 years as spokesman for Governor Pawlenty.
Kurt recently concluded his sixth term in the Minnesota House of Representatives and served as the state's 57th Speaker of the House. He finished second in the Republican primary for Governor in 2014. Kurt's extensive national network includes Speakers and Majority Leaders in legislatures across the US. In Minnesota, he authored bills on key initiatives including public safety and health care. He has previous experience in public relations and advertising.
Chas has extensive experience at the highest levels of state government. She served as Deputy Commissioner of Education from 2003 to 2010 and as Chief of Staff for the Minnesota House Republican Caucus from 2011 to 2014. In 2012, Politics in Minnesota named her "Top Legislative Staffer." Chas also has a strong business background and earned an MBA from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota.
