October 16

Droog Design Foundation presents Material  Tax 2: New Business Models.
Join us on October 16 at Hôtel Droog.

DID YOU KNOW THAT taxes could save the world? There is a desperate need for more jobs, but we put high taxes on labour. They give entrepreneurs the incentive to hire as few people as possible. At the same time, we need to save natural resources - but there's no price on pollution! A tax shift is key if we ever want to achieve a 'circular' economy. A circular economy means: smart resource use and much more room for manpower, craftsmanship and creativity.

Imagine you are an entrepreneur and it’s the year 2050. The circular economy has become a reality. Taxes are now paid on pollution, the use of water, primary metals and minerals. Labour taxes and social contributions have been abolished.

How will this affect our lives? And how will we do business? What kind of design models, products and services will flourish, and what does a tax shift mean for existing modes of production and consumption?

We hope to inspire you at the event Material ♥ Tax 2: New Business Models, which is a sequel to the first Material  Tax event (June 26, 2014). Then, Renny Ramakers (Droog) and Femke Groothuis (The Ex'tax Project) met with designers to discuss the influence of our tax system on the way we deal with materials and waste.

FOR THIS UPCOMING EVENT Droog Design Foundation has invited entrepreneurs Eric Petersen (Scherpenzeel Recycling), Thomas Eyck (t.e.), and Hans Lensvelt (Lensvelt Contract Furniture). Together with Groothuis they will discuss which new business models are substituting conventional business models.

We welcome you to join our public event to shape the future with us.

Moderator: Renny Ramakers
Guest speakers: Femke Groothuis (The Ex’Tax Project), Eric Petersen (Scherpenzeel Recycling), Thomas Eyck (t.e.) Hans Lensvelt (Lensvelt Contract Furniture)

This event is part of the Droog Design Foundation program Material Matters, which makes an index of new economies in the age of material scarcity.
