The Latest from my PV Studio

It's December in Puerto Vallarta and we've had some chilly mornings. Chilly for us, anyway (down to 15C, or 60F). It's refreshing. And it still warms up to a nice 26C/80F during the day.

High season is getting into full swing, with lots more visitors from the north.  In my neighborhood that means tons of adorable gay and lesbian couples walking down Olas Altas holding hands. I love this place.

I've been busy in the studio as usual, and recently spent several days on a major new work called Bananas. This is a fresh interpretation of a painting I did back in 1993 called Fountain of Youth. My Canadian friend John Webster was visiting the studio at the time and created a video of me working on the painting. There's more info and links to all that below.

I've also got a brand-new print called Palm Springs 6 PM on offer at a special price if you order right away! Plus some delightful new drawings at very affordable prices.

Read on for the latest art and news from my studio.

I've been busy in the studio as usual, and recently spent several days on a major new work called Bananas. This is a revisit of a painting I did back in 1993 called Fountain of Youth. You can see the new painting in the Members-Only Gallery, and read about the making of the painting in a new Artist's Diary blog entry. There's also an in-progress video of me creating the painting.

New Painting:
Jordy's New Suit

A photo I shot of Victor at the beach in Hawaii a few years ago got a lively treatment in one of my new paintings. As you'll see, I used an Expressionist approach with vivid color and bold lines to reimagine the male shape, and created a fantasy boy named Jordy, caught off guard in his new swimsuit. See the new painting in the main gallery.

In-Progress Painting Video: Bananas

My friend John Webster was visiting me in my Puerto Vallarta studio during the painting of Bananas, and was kind enough to shoot and edit a short video showing how the painting came into being. I've posted it on YouTube and you can view it here.

Introductory Discount on New Print!

I took model Rob T. to Palm Springs for a photo shoot a few years ago (there's an e-book all about it here), and one of my best paintings from that session is Palm Springs 6PM. Now it's a print and it's available at an introductory discount for a limited time. Click here for more info.

(Check out Painting Without Brushes Part 2, the Artist's Diary entry detailing how the painting was created.)

I've just completed several new drawings which can now be seen on the opening pages of the main galleries. I call these rough sketches because they're spontaneous, loose drawings which are done mostly for practice or as preparation for larger works. In keeping with that, they're priced very affordably--mostly from $50-$75. Each of these original works comes with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. See them here:    SFW    NSFW

Spotlight on: Bahian Beach Boys

If you're in the Members-Only Gallery and you choose the Paintings category, you'll be presented with several pages of available paintings. Drill down to page 4 and you'll find one of my best works from 2009, Bahian Beach Boys. It's still available and can be shipped to you within 24 hours of purchase. Click here for more.
P.S. Have you read the profusely illustrated e-books about my Brazilian photo shoot that resulted in this painting? Click here for part 1.
