The Latest from my PV Studio

Happy New Year, or as we say in PV, Feliz Año!  The New Year's weekend began our busiest time and the sidewalks, restaurants and bars are packed. Plus it seems like I have Hawaii friends visiting almost every week (last week there were 3 groups of them here at once!) I like all the activity, but I'm glad I also get to live here during the low season when it's quieter and more local.

My painting classes at ArtVallarta are filling up with snowbirds, people who come here for the winter, and it's great to see new faces light up as they discover they are, indeed, creative beings with expressive powers! (If you're going to be in PV and want to take my class, check out the ArtVallarta website.)

I've been busy painting and drawing, with new paintings and sketches to share. Read on for more!

One of my all-time favorite models is Rod, who modeled for me when I lived in Honolulu. I've just completed 2 new G-rated paintings of him, Moment of Truth and Blue, and I'm really happy with both. Check them out on the ART (SFW) page.

I had to paint one of my newest works, Israel on Board, twice to get what I wanted. Check out the Artist's Diary blog entry HERE to read all about it and see the in-progress photos. See the art here:  Study for Israel on Board    Israel on Board

The Missing Speck of Paint

A collector who had just purchased one of my Expressionist portraits wrote to me and said he'd discovered a "missing speck of paint on the left eye." He wanted to know if he could send it back to me so I could repair it. If you're wondering how I responded to this request, click here.

(The painting shown here, Pinoy Boy, is for illustrative purposes; it's not the painting in question.)

Sitemap and Guide to the Website

Most of us get to know a website by clicking around randomly and seeing what's there. But sometimes you want a clear guide to all the website offers. That's why I've created a Sitemap and Guide to my website. This is a page that tells you everything that's on the website and how to get to it. Check it out here! You may be surprised at all that's available on the Simonson website.

Recent sales include a group of rough sketches which went to a new collector in Germany (Floor Cushion is shown here); the nude-surfers painting Maui Monday went to a longtime collector in West Virginia; the near-abstract plantscape Ho'omaluhia 2 went to a new collector in Florida, and the Mike T. painting Billabong Shorts went to a new collector in Ohio, who bought it via payment plan over a period of several months. Remember we can ship anywhere, and unless you've selected a work that's still with me at my Mexico studio, we're usually able to ship your art within 24 hours.

I've been focusing on portraits lately during my sketching practice, and you can see the latest drawings here.

Simonson e-books are no longer password-protected.  It wasn't that effective and it was kind of a pain for everybody. Good news, right? But I know a lot of you have the older versions and you might have lost or forgotten the passwords. More good news: there's now a page on the website with a list of all 40 Simonson e-book passwords. Here's the link:
