Watershed School Mini-Workshops

~ Thanks to the 25 kids that came out to CRMPI for two days of workshops, March 11th & 12th!  We had a great time with this lively group.  Mini-workshop topics included Forest Gardening, Low Energy Climate Control for Greenhouses, Medicinal Herbs (Tinctures and Salves), a bit about seed saving and a tour of a few of our off-site greenhouses!
Seed Saving Workshop & Potluck

This months local Local Food Meeting will highlight the basics of seed saving!  This FREE workshop will cover beginner level seed saving including the methods to save peas, beans, tomatoes and peppers. 

Date : 5:30pm on Wednesday, March 27th
Location: Basalt Regional Library
Bring: A yummy treat for the Potluck!

Learn how to put in a Climate Battery?
Join us here at CRMPI for a hands-on event!  The Climate Battery is also called the Subterranean Heating and Cooling System (SHCS).  This system uses underground pipes and fans to help moderate temperature swings.  Bring a shovel and a notebook to get your hands dirty and help CRMPI with our 5th onsite greenhouse!

The Central Rocky Mountain Permaculture Institute in conjunction with Colorado Soil Systems is working to establish a fungal culture library in the Roaring Fork Valley.  Please join us on April 18th at 5:30 in the Basalt Public Library to discuss benefits and applications of a culture library as well as learn how you can participate and contribute fungi to the library. Pruning (live wood) and trimming (dead wood) workshop with Michael Thompson on Saturday, April 7, from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm, at the Emma Schoolhouse, and across the highway at the Emma Townsite. Let's just meet at the Emma Schoolhouse, and we'll split up into crews from there.

After filling up the April Greenhouse Intensive we have desided to schedule another!  Grow tropical bananas in the Rockies?  That's right. Learn how to grow your own food year-round, even tropical fruits, using Climate Battery technology.  
Learn the intricacies and design of greenhouse growing with an emphasis on perennial poly-culture and making the most of your space.  Learn how to stack functions to make your greenhouse more effective and efficient. Or, if you don't have a greenhouse, just come to see how this low-tech greenhouse design produces papayas, bananas and other tropical goodies at 7,000+ feet above sea level.

Say goodbye to Hannah Day!  Hannah has been with us for 10 months and has worked and played hard.  We have enjoyed her time with us and are sad to see her go but excited for what she will do in the future! 


We are now actively interviewing interns for the Spring, Summer and Fall of 2013.  If you are interested please apply now... or please reapply if we have not talked in a while.  Space is Limited!
