Interning at CRMPI

Looking for a fun and educational spring or fall activity??

We are still seeking several short term interns to join us for March, April, August, and September!

Duties you may be involved in: rabbit and chicken care, planting, harvesting, transplanting, pruning, watering, weeding, mulching, and other greenhouse and forest garden care, along with occasional cooking, tidying up, social media, and networking (like writing this newsletter!). We could also use some grant writing, construction help on our cabin project, medicinal herb work, and web design.

If you are interested please send your available dates, a resume, and letter of interest to jerome@crmpi.org

Just take a look at this bounty! Don't you want to watch these sweeties grow, pick them when they're ripe, and incorporate their juicy nectar into your body!?

Projects

A small business experiment...and lots of fresh salads! Restaurants love these and they are so easy to grow!

Jerome in Mexico!

Jerome spotted a dinosaur at the hugging rock!

what do you see???

Our Favorite Winter Recipes

AYURVEDIC VEGGIE LENTIL SOUP:

Veggies - use any storage crops available from your local farmers from the past season (onion, garlic, shallots, squash of any sort, cabbage, turnips, carrots, potatoes, sweet potatoes)
Greens - some of your local farmers likely have a greenhouse for growing kale, chard, and herbs through the winter
Spices - balance your doshas and invigorate your immune system and circulation by adding turmeric, coriander, and cumin to your soup, other good spices to add are ginger, sage, parsley, and basil
Miso - give your soup a delicious probiotic boost by adding miso after cooking, try making your own!

Make It!
Throw all those tasty friends into a big pot and boil it, sometimes we brown some of the veggies and spices first in a cast iron pan to add some more flavors to the mix. And as always, season with fresh key lime juice and ume plum vinegar!

JEROME'S FRUIT SMOOTHIE:

Our freezers are packed to the brims with frozen fruit! Busy summer's usually don't allow for too much jam making, but we do take the time to slice, pit, and bag all the fruit we can't eat in the warm season. On a dark snowy December day these bright colored sweet drinks are a welcome boost of energy and laughter.

Fruit - plum, peach, apricot, pear, fig, mulberries, goji berries, jackfruit, papaya, pineapple...it all works
Additions - elderberry syrup, spirulina/green powder, cinnamon (once Jerome confused the cinnamon with cumin which also turned out quite delicious!)

ACTIVELY AERATED COMPOST TEA!

Basic Recipe (enhance accordingly):
Aerate in water 24-48 hours:
Worm castings
Humic acid
Maxicrop soluble seaweed powder AND/OR kelp meal
Soluble mycorrhizae (timing depends on product)
Yucca (optional)
