Indiana 811 in the News
During the month of April, Indiana 811 made appearances on television, radio and online news to promote Indiana Safe Digging Month. Some of the media highlights included interviews on WXIN-TV FOX 59 and WIBC 93.1 FM in Indianapolis, and WTWO-TV NBC 2 in Terre Haute. Indiana 811 was featured by more than 10 media outlets during April! Indiana 811's media coverage was great exposure for the safe digging message and reminded DIYers to call Indiana 811 this spring before digging, as a recent CGA study suggests that 48 percent of homeowners who plan to dig will fail to call before starting their projects.
Indiana Firehouses Promote Safe Digging Month
Indiana 811 and the Indiana Pipeline Awareness Association asked fire stations across the state to show their support for Indiana Safe Digging Month by reminding community members to call 811 before digging. Fire stations that posted an 811-related message on their marquee received a donation of $50 and were entered into a drawing for a grand prize of $200 toward their organization. All donations were made possible through Vectren and NIPSCO's support of Indiana 811.
Indiana 811 was an exhibitor at the Northwest Indiana Earth Day Celebration on April 20 in Valparaiso and Earth Day Indiana on April 27 in Indianapolis. At these events, Indiana 811 was able to further promote the Indiana Safe Digging Month message and remind Hoosiers to call 811 prior to starting any digging project this spring. As you can see, it's been a busy April!
Baseball season is officially here, and Indiana 811 is proud to partner with NIPSCO to sponsor the South Bend Silver Hawks' reading club. Swoop's Reading Club, named for the Silver Hawks' mascot, encourages students to read in the classroom and at home. Students who meet their reading goals receive prizes from the Silver Hawks, including a free ticket to a baseball game. A big thank you to NIPSCO for your support and for volunteering at the first Reading Club games of the season in April!

Did you know?
Did you know that Indiana 811 conducted outreach to 38 Rural Electric Membership Cooperatives this spring? We sent out information about calling Indiana 811 in an effort to encourage all utility companies around the state to call 811 before they dig. Members were receptive to our message and many have requested that Holey Moley come out to their annual meetings this year.
