  • Where: 1036 W Main St, Grass Valley, CA 95945

The Money Question: Centennial Audit

Last month, Nevada Irrigation District released the Centennial Project Audit. A new version of the audit will be reviewed for the first time this week. You can read the full July report here, and the new August version here

The original request for the audit was made by NID Board Director, Nancy Weber, back in December 2017. The goal was to reveal how much NID had spent on the project so far, improve cost transparency, and to obtain a final project cost estimate. Unfortunately, the end-product leaves us with more questions than answers.

Why doesn't NID have the proper documentation for all purchased properties?

Why did NID approve the additional spending of $525,000 in closed session?

Even more disappointing, we still don't know how much Centennial will cost or who will pay for the project.

What do we know? NID has budgeted to spend an additional $2 million on the project next year, despite focusing on the "Raw Water Master Plan."

Join us for an evening hike along the Bear River while you learn about the trees and shrubs that inhabit its banks and how they are an important part of a healthy river. Our walk will be led by two plant experts: SYRCL’s own scientist and plant expert Betsy Harbert and Wolf Creek Community Alliance biologist, Josie Crawford.

We will learn to identify local species of trees and shrubs, their place in the river ecosystem, and how this area could be affected if the Centennial Dam is built.

This easy walk will last approximately an hour and a half and cover about two miles of mostly flat, shady trail along the clear, cool waters of the Bear River, at a botanist’s pace (slow). Read more.

RSVP to save your spot: Daniel Belshe, Community Engagement Manager, daniel@yubariver.org
