Spirit Wrestler Gallery is excited to be hosting a rare solo exhibition by master artist, Paul Quviq Malliki, from Naujaat (Repulse Bay), Nunavut, Canada.
This long awaited exhibition of wonderful sculptures explains why Paul is, without a doubt, recognized as one of the outstanding and leading Inuit artists today.
MONTHLY ARTIST SPOTLIGHT
Conlucy Niviaxie (1940-2012)
Inukjuak

Conlucy Niviaxie was one of many noted carvers from Inukjuak producing sculptures since the early 1960s. He was taught by his father of the same name and became a prominent member of the community. Conlucy carved a variety of subject matter detailing life in the community and on the land. His carvings highlighted scenes revolving around the family, hunting and shaman transformations. He has been exhibiting since 1967 and his sculpture, Sea Pigeon, was included in the renowned exhibition,"Sculpture/Inuit: Masterworks of the Canadian Arctic".

This documented international exhibition toured 1971-73 through Europe, USA and Canada, introducing Inuit art and establishing the names of many of its artists. Conlucy sculptures are in several Canadian museum collections, as well as referenced in many books and publications.
