March 2017 Update

Safe Routes to Schools

SRTS Survey: We are conducting a statewide survey on safe routes to school to help guide our upcoming work to build and provide support to these programs throughout the state. Your participation is important to us. Please take this brief survey and pass on to anyone you know might be interested.

SRTS Legislation: Many of you contacted legislators to support Senate Bill 1121 establishing a Safe Routes to School – Healthy Kids Program for Idaho. Thank you for that support! The bill passed handily in the Senate, but will not get a hearing in the House this year despite the best efforts of you and our many partners led by the Idaho Walk Bike Alliance and the American Heart Association. The bill made it farther than many expected and sets the stage for more conversations over the next year about why this issue is so important for the health and safety of Idaho students and increased vibrancy of Idaho communities.

Legislative update…

We continue to watch and comment on many of the final bills in the 2017 Idaho legislative session. Watch for our update next month on the impact of this session on smart growth in the state.
