Farewell Father Paul
Father Paul Kowalewski's retirement as Rector of St. James' Episcopal Church is upon us. While we are sad to see him leave us, we keep in mind his words, "Now it's time for Saint James' to write the next chapter of its vibrant life story." Father Paul and wife, Karen, are looking forward to enjoying their beautiful desert home and beginning life in LaQuinta, where he plans on engaging in some further writing, perhaps some teaching, and maybe some retreat work. They also hope to do some traveling, which of course, will involve visits back East to their son and his new wife.
Both Karen and Father Paul say they feel privileged to have been given this opportunity to journey along with the St. James' community for this time, and are grateful for the many ways St. James has enriched and touched their lives. They have learned, loved, and laughed much in their time here and leave this place with many cherished memories and fond and tender feelings for all of St. James.
Final All School Chapel for Father Paul
Just as St. James' has touched Father Paul's life, he has left his mark on ours. We invite and encourage each of you to join us in his final weeks here at St. James'.

Farewell Sunday Worship and Reception
Sunday, January 13, 10:30 am
We invite the St. James' community to join us for Father Paul's final All School Chapel. We will take this time to come together in celebration of the light that Father Paul has brought St. James'-especially its students. Parents are always welcome to attend the chapel services, which help to develop your children’s spiritual lives. Please consider joining your children at this service. You are also encouraged to sit with your children in the Church. Please park your car across the street from the School and wait for your children around the parking lot between the Church and the School until they process to the Church.
At this service, and at all All-School Chapel services, we collect non-perishable food supplies to support the work of the Hope-Net Food Pantry. Suggested items include peanut butter, pasta, rice, canned meats, beans, canned fruits, and vegetables.
Please plan to be here on Sunday, January 13, at 10:30, as we bid farewell to our Rector. There will be a special liturgy, "Ending a Pastoral Relationship and Solemn Service," followed by a festive reception. This is the beginning of a time of self-study for St. James as we begin the process of choosing a new Rector with the assistance of Canon Joanna Satorius and the able ministry of our Interim Rector/Priest in Charge, Fr. Tom Discavage. Let's come together to ask God's blessing on Fr. Paul and Karen Kowalewski as they begin the next stage of their journey, and join in a celebration of all we have accomplished together as a community.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Save the date! Learning Specialist Wine and Cheese Reception
Wednesday, January 23, 5:00-6:30 pm
Next year, St. James' will be hiring a full time Learning Specialist to provide individualized attention to children when and where they need it most, whether it is a need for remediation or enrichment. As each child learns differently, we think this addition to our school with be a truly positive change for students, staff, and parents. In an effort to help our community make this adjustment, we have invited Matt Kustura, K-8 Learning Support Specialist for Marymount of Santa Barbara, to join us for a wine and cheese reception at St. James. This is a time to learn from him and hear first hand how a Learning Specialist can impact education. Please join us in St. James' Hall with enthusiasm, open hearts and minds, and questions as we welcome Matt. No RSVP necessary.
