10 Not-to-miss Experiences at Beakerhead this September

In just a few weeks, a five-day spectacle called Beakerhead will be taking over the city of Calgary with mechanical sculptures, interactive street art, feats of creativity and engineering, larger-than-life theatre, classrooms of creators and spectacular performances. To help you find your way through the more than 60 different events, we’ve put together a list of 10 experiences that will put a skip in your step!

Beakernight: An evening full of quirky surprises will illuminate the streets of Bridgeland where everyone can enjoy interactive works and performances, live music, the Beakerbar, a pedal-powered brain, a can-crushing cow and a human-sized hamster wheel, just to name to few.

Torched: This original food experience will jolt everyone’s expectations. Six top Calgary chefs and mixologists are getting creative in an industrial compound turned skate park in Ramsay. Imagine a car on its side turning a spit, a giant flame under an array of roasted trout in wire baskets, and a warehouse setting full of surprises.

Cornstarch Walk: Try your luck at walking across a trough of cornstarch and water – barefoot – without sinking!

International premiere of BASS Ship, a two-story high communications device for sending messages to outer space – if you can crack the code. Hop in! It’s in the East Village.

Highly Social Science: We’re turning the side of a building into a giant social barometer in Mission. Get out your cell phones, this is interactive.

Tentacles: A massive octopus has managed to get inside one of Inglewood’s historic building!
Saturnian: Walk barefoot inside the belly of an inflatable robotic, exploratory, humpback-narwhal hybrid.
Nibbles: Remember last year’s rabbits in Central Memorial Park? Well, the predictable has happened. Welcome … baby bunnies!
Cloud 17: Three interactive experiences, including a massive dome filled with mesmerizing projections, will be a light and sound show in the heart of 17th Ave!

Engineered Eats: Explore engineered temptations at 32 participating bars and restaurants during Beakerhead – citywide.

Beakerhead 2016 will take place across Calgary from September 14-18.
