HB 667 was officially and unanimously voted out of the Public Health Committee on Friday!🎊🎉
THANK YOU to everyone who contacted your legislators on the Public Health Committee, dropped a card, and provided written comments in support of HB 667 - your advocacy has advanced HB 667 to the House Calendars Committee!
Let's take a look at what's next for HB 667:
Next Stop: House Calendars Committee
Now that HB 667 has been voted out of the Public Health Committee, it will be sent to the House Calendars Committee so that it can be scheduled for a date to be brought to the House floor.
Our fearless legislative sponsor, Representative Ann Johnson, is also a member of the House Calendars Committee. Thank you, Rep. Johnson, for your dedicated service to Texas and to the field of music therapy!
Once on the House Floor:
Once HB 667 is on the House floor, legislators will have the opportunity to vote on, debate, or propose amendments to HB 667. At this time, we have bipartisan support of our bill and do not expect much opposition or proposed amendments for this bill.
When HB 667 is scheduled for presentation on the House floor, we will be sending out a state-wide call to action to contact your Representative and ask for their support - stay tuned for more information!
What Comes After the House?
If HB 667 is voted out of the House, it will be sent to the Senate to go through a similar process - committee assignment, committee hearing, scheduled to the Senate calendar, and discussion on the Senate floor.
How Can I Help?
We're on a bit of a time crunch to get HB 667 out of the House and moved through the Senate by the time this legislative session ends on May 29th, so your continued engagement and support will be crucial over the next month. Well be sending out various calls to action in the next few weeks with asks like contacting your legislators, dropping cards in support of our bill at the Capitol, and talking to your fellow Texas residents about the need for a music therapy license in Texas.
Thank you again for your continued advocacy for our field and for the public - HB 667 could not have made it this far without you! ❤️
