Coming Next Week!

Save the date! Our next Digital Data Resource Show & Share is scheduled for Thursday August 26 at 9:30 a.m.

While we still need better public access to local data, too often we don't even know about the data that is available. Hosted by LISC San Antonio, the Alamo Regional Data Alliance (ARDA), and CI:Now, the Show & Share is intended to help us all discover and use these local data resources. Presentations will be followed by a Q&A. Tools to be featured include:

Opportunity Atlas
Ginger Walker, StriveTogether

Golareh Agha, San Antonio Metropolitan Health District

College Success Dashboard
Jayde Beebe, UP Partnership

CWW Self-Sufficiency Standard
Jeremy Pyne, CI:Now

(Plus a Census redistricting data resource!)

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

August Viz-a-lyzer Update

Viz-a-lyzer screenshot of age 0-17 asthma hospitalization rate map 2019

The August 2021 release of the Viz-a-lyzer, which shows trended data for area ZIP codes, Bexar Co., and Texas, updates the data for a number of frequently-used indicators:

  • Child Abuse and Neglect (Initial Intakes, Confirmed Victims, Revictimized)
  • Family Violence (Incident Rate)
  • Births (Teen Birth Rate, Late or No Prenatal Care)
  • Asthma Hospitalization (Discharge rate by age group)
  • Diabetes Hospitalization (Discharge rate by age group for adults)
  • Hypertension Hospitalization (Discharge rate by age group)
  • Injury Hospitalization (Discharge rate by age group)
  • Mental Health Hospitalization (Discharge rate by age group)

This release also corrects two errors in populations percentage: (1) population under 5 years (2014), and (2) population 65 years and older (2016)

COVID-19 Vaccination Rates

We've added vaccination rates by ZIP Code Tabulation Area (ZCTA) to our COVID-19 scatterplot tool! Vaccination, case, and death data is as of May 2021; hospitalization data is as of November 2020.

Built using Shiny R, the interactive scatterplot shows the relationship at the ZIP code level between an indicator of COVID-19 burden and an indicator of community characteristics, such as population race/ethnicity, chronic disease, or unemployment. Each dot in the scatterplot is a ZIP code. The image above shows the positive correlation at the ZIP code level between COVID-19 case rate and percent of the population that is Hispanic or Latino.

Want some help getting started? View a brief video overview of the tool.

We've also published the scatterplot documentation to GitHub.

You're doing the hard work of changing our community for the better.
