Hi friends –

Our team at CI:Now hopes you and your family are well and safe. It's a hard and scary time for so many of us, and the nonprofit work that's in many ways gotten harder to do during the COVID-19 pandemic is needed more now than it ever has been.

[TL;DR: We need your help! Please donate to CI:Now]

CI:Now is one of so many nonprofits hit hard by COVID-19, and no doubt you're getting Big Give calls and emails from many organizations today. Although we haven't had funding to do it, we've been working to provide data that responds to some of the most important issues our community and world face. Here are a few highlights:

What's the 2020 Census Got to Do With Racial Equity and Justice? Peaceful protests across the U.S. demand an end to police brutality and the systematic racism that supports it, taking a stand because black lives matter. Why would we care about the Census right now? Developed in partnership with the San Antonio Area African American Community Fund and San Antonio Area Foundation, this infographic highlights how important the 2020 Census is to securing both resources and representation and lays out the stark differences in response rates among census tracts in Bexar County.

Individual Choices, Connected Lives. Our lives are connected across county lines,  including through our jobs. Right now no Texas county can do the level of COVID-19 testing and contact tracing it needs. Until every county can, infection in one community is certain to spread to another. This infographic shows the number and percent of each county’s jobs that are filled by workers who live outside that county. A companion interactive map lets you explore jobs, worker counties, testing coverage, and cases identified to date.

You Saved 1,271 Lives Last Week. A week after the local "Stay Home, Work Safe" orders went into effect in March, we released this infographic to put numbers to the hospitalizations and deaths in Bexar County that we could prevent between then and October by our staying home.

So yes, I’m here to ask you to invest in CI:Now, with a gift of $10 or $10,000 or something in between, before midnight tonight. We know your own financial situation may not be as solid as it was six months ago, so please know that we don't ask lightly.

I can promise you that whatever the amount, your gift will be put to good use, as cost-effectively as we possibly can, in collaboration with others, prioritizing equity and transparency, and with the knowledge that data must be – without exception – in clear service to the greater good.

And thank you for everything that you do to leave the world a little better than you found it. We’ll keep doing our part at your side.
