October Chapter Meeting

We hope to see everyone at Stoup Brewing in Ballard, next Tuesday, October 20th for our monthly meeting. On the agenda:
  • Mike McCann from the Snowrider Project will relay ways to get involved with spreading the cleanwater love to the frozen kind...
  • We'll discuss the major events of the past month, including the new Rain Garden Installation in East Ballard and the Clean Water Classic.
Head straight up the stairs, or come early for a happy hour beverage, but please don't bring any drinks up there from the bar - we have growlers to share.
When: October 20, 6:45-8PM
Where:  Stoup Brewing, 1108 NW 52nd St, Ballard

Clean Water Classic

The Surfrider Foundation’s annual Clean Water Classic was a success this year! Mother Nature was on our side for the entire weekend; she provided us with consistent overhead surf, mild offshore winds, sun, sun, and more sun. The picture to the left explains it all! Check out more pictures on the Facebook page. Along with our local Washington competitors, there were people representing Oregon, California, British Columbia, Australia, and South Africa! Be sure to get there next year if you didn’t have the chance this year. A special thanks to all our sponsors such as The IslanderTodd Fischer Surf Art and Firewire among others for their great support of this year’s event! If you would like to be a part of organizing next year's contest, please contact Brice Boland.

International Coastal Cleanup Day

As our chapter has for the last few years, we once again were active in the the annual International Coastal Cleanup by hosting a beach cleanup in Westport. With local promotion and help from CoastSavers, attendance was strong as approximately sixty people attended. This year we were fortunate to also have the Capitol chapter lend a hand and cleanup up the beaches the week before Surfrider's annual Clean Water Classic.

Rain Garden Planting in Ballard

Community work party this past Saturday 10/10/15
Courtesy of a grant received two years ago from the Rose Foundation and Soundkeeper, funded through the Puget Sound Stewardship and Mitigation Fund, the Seattle chapter was able to purchase plants for the East Ballard Green Street Project.

The planting was a highlight for the chapter after spending a few years waiting on the permitting process for the project to make it finally happen. About twenty people came together from the different partners to get the plants in the ground despite the heavy rain. If you would like to get involved or to learn more about Surfrider’s Ocean Friendly Gardens program please contact WA Field Manger Brice Boland
