GHYC April Newsletter

Note from the Commodore

Just to let you all know that I am going to take a back seat role at GHYC for the next few weeks/months as I had some serious surgery on March 29th that will require some recovery time.

Our super hardworking Vice Commodore, John Wyles has kindly agreed to take over the reins. I am fully confident that John and the superb committee that we have in place this year will ensure that everything will go on just perfectly without me...probably even better!

Although I will be missing the pre-season activities such as the big work day and curry night on April 29th as well as the fleet crane-in day on May 6th, I'm hoping I will be fully fit and raring to go for the regatta season. This is starting with the June weekend At Home and we are expecting visiting boats from Schull, Baltimore, Kinsale and Crosshaven for that event.

After that we have a mad busy calendar! Have a look at the upcoming events here and pencil in those important dates. The biggie event this season is our biennial Classic Boat Regatta, which is 25 years old this year. The Classic runs from July 23rd to 28th (Sunday to Friday) with Sunday 23rd being the big spectator day. I would ask all our members to persuade your friends to come and support this important event for this milestone year. See the full details here.

I look forward to seeing you all in sunny Glandore before long and until then, fair winds and happy sailing to you all.

Karen

STOP PRESS: The surgery was successful and the medical team are delighted with Karen's progress. She is now recovering and will be home later this week!

MOORINGS

Remember this?

Now is the time to have your mooring checked and cleaned while there are no boats in the harbour and before the crane-in date of 6 May.

Aodh O’Donnell is available on the following  weekends: 8/9, 15/16, 22/23 and 29/30 April, and possibly some early evenings. Aodh will lift, clean and check ground tackle for €50 per mooring. Any repairs and/or replacements at cost. Payable direct to Aodh.

It is preferable that the mooring owner or representative is available to help identify the mooring and witness the lifting. All bookings for mooring checks must be made direct with Aodh by email at aodh@odonnellfurniture.com. Include your name, telephone number, your boat name, type, weight and class together with information on the location of the mooring and any identifying marks and also the preferred date for inspection.

Invitation from the Royal Cork Yacht Club

DO NOT MISS OUT!
Discounted entry ends soon - NOR here

Crane-in: Saturday May 6 from 14:00hrs at Union Hall Pier

The club organised crane will be able to lift in small cruising/power boats requiring slings as well as usual lift for Squibs and Dragons. Remember space is at a premium and boat/trailer time on the pier should be kept to a minimum. If you have any special time requirement, please contact the Harbour Master direct.

Contact the Sailing Secretary vcom-sailsec@glandoreyc.com with details of your boat by April 14th to confirm crane. If only Dragons and Squibs are being craned in, an hydraulic arm will be used - the  maximum lift is two tonnes.

Any interest in a Seagull Race?

There has been a suggestion that we include a race in the Classic Regatta for punts powered by the old Seagull outboard engine - a real classic. Is anyone interested in participatin in a race likes this? Or perhaps you might be intersted in organising it? Please contact us on classic17chair@glandoreyc.com.
