Client Updates

Several clients have announced increased air service as national travel numbers continue to increase. Below is a round-up of recent news.

Boise Airport (BOI), Boise, Idaho
Boise Airport announced that Southwest Airlines is adding several new flights beginning this summer, including non-stop routes to Orange County and Dallas Love Field, as well as increased service to Las Vegas. Previous daily flight to Chicago Midway, San Diego, and San Jose will return. With these additions, BOI will have a total of 27 non-stop destinations.

Airport Director Rebecca Hupp stated, "We're excited to see Southwest expand its network of flights in Boise, opening up greater air service possibilities for our passengers. This summer Boise Airport will have non-stop service to the most destinations in the airport's history—and more available total seats than ever."

Asheville Regional Airport (AVL), Asheville, North Carolina
Asheville Regional Airport is adding flights to Boston and will add a new carrier in 2022: JetBlue Airways. American Airlines, which already serves the airport, will begin offering seasonal flights to Boston this summer. Earlier this year, AVL also announced a new twice-weekly flight to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport in Florida via Allegiant.

"It is an exhilarating day for Western North Carolina when we learn that JetBlue is adding Asheville to their route map,” said Lew Bleiweis, Executive Director of Asheville Regional Airport. “Western North Carolina and Boston are two areas that people want to go to, and the non-stop flights will be incredible for air travelers."

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Asheville Regional set records for passenger traffic in 2019, serving 1.6 million annual passengers. Passenger numbers grew by 43% that year, the largest annual growth in the airport’s history, making 2019 the sixth consecutive year of record growth.

Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR), Syracuse, New York

The Syracuse Hancock International Airport has announced nonstop service to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport beginning on August 17, 2021 via American. American Airlines also offers service from SYR to Boston, Chicago O'Hare, Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Washington Reagan.

SYR Executive Director Jason Terreri states, “This new route will not only benefit our business community—who have repeatedly told us that this is a priority for them—but will also open up a tremendous amount of leisure destinations thanks to connections to locations not only across the US, but also around the world.” Estimates place the economic impact of this new service to the Central New York Region at $16 million per year.

With the addition of nonstop service to DFW, airlines operating at SYR will now serve 25 nonstop destinations. To learn about SYR’s nonstop destinations, please visit their Destinations Page.

Cherry Capital Airport (TVC), Traverse City, Michigan
Cherry Capital Airport has made multiple announcements regarding expanded air service, particularly around the busy summer festival season in the cherry capital of the nation. Delta is expanding its seasonal summer service to include a new flight to Boston and expanded daily service into Atlanta and New York's LaGuardia, in addition to increasing frequency to Minneapolis and Detroit.

American Airlines is also adding a new nonstop flight to Boston and has expanded flights into New York LaGuardia from weekend-only to daily service for the summer season. This summer, American will offer a total of 11 daily flights from TVC to hub markets across the country, including Chicago O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Charlotte, Philadelphia, and Washington Reagan.

Earlier, TVC announced direct flights to three cities in Florida on low-cost Allegiant Air flights, including Orlando Sanford (SFB), Punta Gorda/Ft. Myers (PGD), and St. Petersburg/Clearwater/Tampa (PIE).

"This additional service is a great sign for our industry as flying continues to be the safest way to travel,” stated Kevin Klein, TVC Airport Director.

Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport (SAV), Savannah, Georgia
Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport announced that Southwest has begun service at the airport to five daily locations: Baltimore/Washington (BWI), Chicago Midway, Nashville, H Hobby, and Dallas Love Field. Greg Kelly, Savannah Airport Commission executive director, noted that this is a big win for the area and the start of a long-term partnership.

Earlier this year, SAV announced other new air service including new non-stop service to both Appleton, Wisconsin and New York Stewart International (SWF) via Allegiant. Also announced earlier was new non-stop service to Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, operating four times weekly, via Silver Airways.

At SAV, 10 airlines now serve over three million passengers per year traveling to more than 30 non-stop destinations on over 60 daily and weekly departures. The airlines include the nation’s top four legacy carriers—American, Delta, Southwest, and United—as well as Air Canada, Allegiant, Frontier, JetBlue, Silver Airways, and Sun Country.

Congratulations to all our clients on their increased air service options.
