Compassion Child Development Center Update - Palompon, Leyte

Dear <<First Name>>, we received good news today - Compassion Philippines has agreed to add up to 150 children to their existing program at the Trinity Faith Baptist Church in Palompon, Leyte.

Pastor Jonas and Disserie, our SOD Partnership Manager team in Leyte, are also the Program Coordinators for this Child Development Center. Pastor Jonas and Disserie do not receive a salary from Compassion as the Coordinators. SOD donors provide their monthly support. By supporting SOD, you are also supporting the management of this very active Compassion program in Palompon.

In November of 2013, the Compassion Child Development Center at TFBC, like most other of their sites in Leyte, was completely destroyed by the Super Typhoon. Rebuilding of the center started in 2014. Compassion supplied two grants for building materials for the new center. Seeds of Dignity and other parties have provided funds for skilled laborers and some other materials. Volunteer labor has been provided by the Compassion parents.

A two story, eight room building was recently completed using this partnership model. Some additional finishing work is still required. Due to the added classroom capacity of the building, Compassion Philippines has agreed to allow up to 150 additional children, ages 3-5 to enter the program.  Additional teachers will also be provided. We are very pleased with this good news! This will bring the total number of students in the program to 370+. Some of the children in the program are also from the families of our livelihood programs for pump boats and putputs.

In 2014, SOD received a grant for additional Bibles from a USA based foundation. 1,300 of these Bibles were given to Compassion sites on Leyte Island for their Bible studies with parents. (Bibles in the Cebuano language).

SOD also received a grant for a small computer lab, which is also now located in this center. On December 13th we will host a Christmas party for the children and provide them footwear provided by Eddie Vega and his friends.

We are very pleased to be working with Compassion Philippines. For more info on their programs, please check out the link below.
