Hello!

November is here again and so is the cooler weather. As we all adjust to the change of seasons, we invite you to grab a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and take a look at some of the things that are happening at Townshippers' Association, and in the Townships, in the coming weeks.

Happy reading!

Townshippers' News

Introducing Sunmi...
Administrative Assistant for Townshippers' Association and the Townshippers' Research and Cultural Foundation

I am from South Korea and immigrated to Canada in 2013, settling in Winnipeg. My family and I moved to the Eastern Townships earlier this year due to of my husband’s job re-location and I joined the Townshippers’ team shortly after our move. It was a dream come true for me as I have always wanted to work for a non-profit organization. I have a diploma in business management and several years of experience in accounting and administration.

As an Anglophone (or, I should say, Allophone 😊), I have had a hard time adjusting in terms of the French language, and Townshippers’ has helped me a great deal.

What our organization does to help and promote the interests of the English-speaking community is truly remarkable and I am very proud to be a part of the team. I believe that the steady and genuine support of the English-speaking community can make a difference!

Blast from the Past!
Townshippers' Association has existed for more than 40 years and in that time we've collected A LOT of photographs... and we'd like to share some of these amazing memories with you!

In the upcoming ebulletins, look for a "Blast from the Past" photograph - if you recognize the people, the location, or the event, send us an email at ta@townshippers.org to let us know. We'll add all correct entries to a hat and pick a winner. The winner will receive a free Townshippers' Association membership (or membership renewal for those who are already members) and a small gift from the Association.

We'll be sure to share the answer in the following newsletter.

Ready? Set? Guess!
Townshippers' Day (now Townshippers' Festival) has been a proud tradition in the Eastern Townships for many years. Do you recognize any of the faces in this photo? Do you know at which festival (location and date) this picture was taken?

Send us an email by December 1st and let us know - one lucky winner will receive a free Townshippers' Association membership (or membership renewal) and a small gift from the Association.
I want to make a guess!

Thanks to a partnership with the Université de Sherbrooke, Townshippers’ Association is pleased to once again provide this clinic giving the public free, easy, and confidential access to legal information in English. A student from the Law Faculty at the UdeS volunteers once a week to answer legal questions by phone, email, and in person by appointment. Do you have a legal question? The Townshippers legal info clinic is open every Monday – between 11 am and 3:30 pm – until April 2023. Contact us by phone (819-566-2182) or by email: legalinfo@townshippers.org.

It is important to remember that legal information interns are still students. They are not allowed by law to dispense advice or offer opinions. This is reserved for lawyers who have passed the bar exam. Students can refer people to practising lawyers as well as other services such as Educaloi.

Partner News

Mental Health Estrie (MHE) has officially launched its 2022-2023 HUGS for the homeless campaign.  From November to March, MHE will accept donations of NEW Hats, Underwear, Gloves, Socks, Scarves, and other warm articles of clothing which they will donate to local shelters for people experiencing homelessness.

Items can be dropped off directly at our offices in the beige bins next to door #2 at 3355 College Street in Sherbrooke (Lennoxville), or you can let them do the shopping for you – all monetary gifts will be used to purchase essentials. You can also call MHE to schedule an in-person drop-off of items or cheques. Please make cheques payable to Mental Health Estrie and indicate HUGS on the memo line. Receipts will be issued for donations of $10 or more. Please DO NOT leave cheques in the bins.

Donations received before mid-December will be put into gift bags for the holiday season. However, this is a winter campaign that runs until the end of March, as the cold weather does not stop at Christmas. Thank you for your continued support and help!  For more information, phone 819-565-3777 or email info@mentalhealthestrie.com.
