Rock  'N' Roll San Diego

Hi Friends,Rock 'n' Roll San Diego

I am so touched by all of the generosity and support I have received so far during my Running to End Domestic Violence Quest. The campaign has now raised $2,700 to support WOMAN, Inc! If you can, please help me to raise another $300 by the end of the week. And remember, WOMAN Inc’s Board Chair has promised to match the $5,000 I raise—bringing in $10,000 total for survivors of domestic violence! So please support me today if you can. Click Here to Donate.

And here’s my update!

One down… FIVE to go! I ran the first of my 6 half marathons in San Diego on June 2nd. Overall, it was a wonderful race and I felt incredibly relieved to see that finish line and get that bottle of water from one of the volunteers.  If you want to learn more about the first race, check out my blog post at Runway Junkie.

There’s more good news! Sports Basement, a sporting-goods retailer in the San Francisco Bay Area will be partnering with me during the campaign and we’ll be hosting a shopping party. Check out the details further down in this newsletter.

If you would like to learn more about this campaign, please click on the highlighted link here Running to End Domestic Violence Quest.

You can also join the Running to End DV Facebook page to keep up to date with the campaign, see pictures and videos, or just cheer me on along the way.

Thank you.

WOMAN, Inc honored to receive Ellen Magnin Newman Award

We are proud to announce that WOMAN Inc has been chosen to receive the prestigious 2012 Ellen Magnin Newman Award at this years' All San Francisco Concert.
The Ellen Magnin Newman Award, which is named after the founder of the All San Francisco Concert, is being presented to WOMAN Inc because of its use of art as a healing tool for survivors of domestic violence. WOMAN Inc believes that through creative expression, survivors of domestic violence recover a sense of renewal and power. Their images of hope, survival and strength help them make deeper connections which lead them to a place of healing. With guidance and support by 'A Window Between Worlds' (a non-profit organization dedicated to using art to help end domestic violence), WOMAN Inc integrates expressive art into support groups for survivors and for children as well as in individual and family therapy.

B-I-N-G-O Night was a hit

On July 14th at West Portal Dubliners, bingo was played, prizes were won, food was eaten, all in order to help raise $1,000 for WOMAN, Inc!

Four women, identifying themselves as the Ending Domestic Violence with Every Step team, will be running the Nike Women’s Full or Half Marathon this October in San Francisco in order to bring awareness of domestic violence and support for WOMAN Inc's services. Their goal is to raise $4,000 for WOMAN Inc by the time the race rolls around by hosting various fundraisers.

To gain support for their cause, they contacted local businesses and individuals throughout the Bay Area to provide donations for food and raffle prizes. The outpour of support by the community was overwhelming and they as well as WOMAN Inc are grateful to all who collaborated to make BINGO Night truly successful.

Grassroots Fundraising - Volunteers helping out
At WOMAN, Inc., we know we couldn’t provide the services that we do without the help of volunteers. Here are a few stories about volunteers getting creative with grassroots fundraising for our agency.

* Gina Li
One of our dedicated crisis line volunteers, Gina, has put together a fundraising page and plans on holding a series of events to benefit WOMAN, Inc. Check out her page below and consider supporting her fundraising parties!

* Zuri Pommerenk
Zuri, one of our long-time crisis line volunteers, recently organized a clothing swap fundraising party. She invited friends and folks from the WOMAN, Inc community to bring gently used clothing and refreshments to her home. The ladies exchanged clothing, enjoyed tasty snacks, and any leftover clothing was donated to Community Thrift in WOMAN, Inc’s name. What a fun and easy way to support the organization!

* Tania Parks and Jaymie Frazier
Tania and Jaymie are our amazing Outreach Coordination volunteers. They work with WOMAN, Inc staff to arrange presentations for community agencies, are a presence at community events, and most recently, are helping to support folks in throwing Parties With Purpose. Staff, volunteers and WOMAN, Inc’s many supporters are invited to join in this grassroots fundraising effort by throwing house parties of their own. Tania and Jaymie provide information, materials, help with planning and more to party hosts. Contact outreach@womaninc.org or call (415) 864-4777 ext 317 to start planning your own Party With Purpose!
