Will you run for a seat on the Board of Ed?
Have you been thinking about how you can be of service in our town? The Board of Education is arguably the most important elected group in town; running for a seat is a great way to make a difference for thousands of children!
We need to elect Board of Education members who prioritize student health and who have the fortitude to advocate openly and urgently for later start times (and other initiatives that ensure our school system does not harm our children's health). We need a change and we hope you will be that change! The Board elected this November will be the Board that decides whether to add later start times to the 2020 budget, so this is the right time to get involved!
To run in this Fall's election, here are the guidelines:
If you are a Republican, the first step is to get a petition signed by 25 others from your party. Petitions are now available at Town Hall with Claudia Weber (our Town Clerk) and must be submitted by June 14th.
The Republican Caucus will be held on July 16th. Connecticut has a closed caucus system which means you must be a registered Republican to vote in that caucus.
We don't have much time, so if you think you might be interested then head over to Town Hall!
The Democratic Caucus will also be held on July 16th at 7:30pm in the Town Hall Board Meeting Room. There is no requirement to have a petition signed prior to nomination, but it is recommended that you contact the DTC to be included on the Democratic slate of candidates. At the caucus, these candidates will be nominated and voted on. Democrats also allow nominations from the floor of the caucus. All registered Democrats are encouraged to attend the caucus to participate and elect their local candidates.
If you are interested in running as a Democrat, please contact Christina Fagerstal, Chair of the New Canaan DTC.
Please email us to let us know that you are interested so we can help spread the word!
Save the Date!
We need as many people as possible to come to the June 24th meeting when Dr. Luizzi will be sharing the results of the survey.
Monday, June 24th
7pm in the Wagner Room
New Canaan High School
It's unfortunate that this meeting has been scheduled after public school is out for the summer. We know that many people will have left for summer vacation. We need to fill the room so please, please - if you are here - put it in your calendar, get a babysitter, and think about saying a few words in support of later start.
