This week, we are discussing:
Momentum. Are you gaining or losing it?
How to keep moving forward.
'The most important thing you can do to achieve your goals is to make sure that as soon as you set them, you immediately begin to create momentum.'
Anthony Robbins
Momentum is really just a fancy word for energy and movement. There are ideas we get during the course of our lives that either gain or lose momentum. Much of the quality of our lives depends on what ideas gain momentum. So this week I thought it would be good to think about how we can make sure that great ideas gain momentum and not so great ones lose momentum. I know that personally when I have a great idea I want it to happen so quickly and when things are not so great I want them to go away, stop or disappear.
So how do we make sure that our great ideas gain momentum? We focus on doing those things that bring us closer to it. And we ensure that ideas lose momentum by not giving them attention. So, lets say that you are worried about tax time. You want to learn more about how to manage your finances so tax time is easy for you. You enrol in a course or read some books or whatever you do to get you financially organised. As it gets easier to get track of the money, your ability to manage it will gain momentum until you do it with ease. If you choose to let your fear of finances prevail and ignore it, before you know it tax time will be here and you will add to your stress because you lost momentum.
Another example might be you want to learn how to bake the perfect sponge cake. This idea will gain momentum if you take steps to make it happen. So you find a recipe, do the shopping, make a time when you will bake the cake. If you have the idea you want to learn how to bake a cake but don't go shopping, make the time etc the idea will lose momentum and just be an idea. So momentum is created when you have an idea. That is the time you can move it or not.
So this week, ideas you don't want to gain energy, just ignore, don't do anything about and take no steps towards. And the things you want or have to do, give them the energy, take steps and move towards. There is something very satisfying about moving towards things even if they aren't much fun. I don't enjoy doing my admin and paperwork stuff and yet I find when I make the time, get prepared and get started it does gain momentum and I have finished it in very little time.
So have a think about where you energy goes. What gains momentum in your world? And are there other things you could direct your energy to?
have a great week.
Til next time

Getting momentum going is the most difficult part of the job, and often taking the first step is enough to prompt you to make the best of your day.
