Littleton and Harestock Parish Council May 2021 e-newsletter

Welcome to your May e-newsletter.
This month we bring you updates on Parish maintenance work as well as the Chairman's Annual Report. There is a new local history resource on the community website and Littleton Bowls Club have shared some information about the Bowls England 'Bowls Big Weekend'!
The Littleton car park had to be shut briefly this month due to tree damage at the entrance caused by high winds. Many thanks to the local resident who posted an image warning residents on social media. Thanks to a swift response, the tree surgeons used a cherry picker to clear the damaged branches and disruption was minimal.
Parish Council News Updates
Littleton Recreation Ground - Playground
Thank you to all our young visitors at the Littleton Recreation Ground for their patience whilst the Littleton playground was closed. The new children’s multi-play has been built and the ground surfacing is currently being installed. The playground is now re-opened with the end containing the multi-play closed off. The Parish Council asks all playgrounds users to please take care and keep away from the closed off area.
Littleton Recreation Ground – Conservation Field
The Parish Council are improving the Conservation Field entrance/exit nearest the Sir John Moore Barracks land to reduce the risk of trip hazards from tree roots. A layer of topsoil has been added to hide the roots and has been covered with grass seed.

Please can everyone who uses the Conservation field avoid the seeded area and use one of the other entrances/exits.
Speed Camera
The Speed Camera is now back in action following repairs. It has been placed at Harestock Road over the past two weeks, and is now located at Priors Dean Road.
Annual Parish Assembly
The Annual Parish Assembly was held via Zoom on 29th April at 7pm. Here is a copy of the Chairman's report:
Welcome to our new Parish Councillor - Julia Whitburn
We moved to Littleton only four years ago (from the now-famous Barnard Castle), so I am still learning a lot about the local parish.  When we arrived, we found a welcoming and well-run community, reflecting the efforts and hard work of a number of local people.  I would like to do whatever I can to help foster that feeling of community. I also appreciate that things never stand still but need constant review and improvement where possible.
Community Updates
Local History Archive
We draw your attention to the new Littleton and Harestock Local History archive which has been added to the Community website, with resources kindly provided by Barbara Elsmore and Brian Middleton. So far, the archive contains the Life on Harestock Farm document and Flowerdown Military Base Research Notes. These resources will be updated, so do visit the page regularly:

Littleton Bowls
Littleton sign up for Bowls England “Bowls Big Weekend”
Bowls England are launching a UK wide campaign to encourage more people to take up bowls and our local bowling club has signed up to support the campaign.

The club, based in the Recreation Ground, will be participating in the “Bowls Big Weekend” by offering a number of open sessions over the next Bank Holiday weekend where anyone can just turn up and try bowls with coaching and all equipment provided free of charge by the club.

Club secretary Brian Baxendale said “as we come out of lockdown people are looking to be more active, both physically and socially.  Outdoor bowls offers the opportunity to do both and as we have a strong coaching team here at Littleton it seemed only appropriate to offer to support the initiative from Bowls England”

The open sessions are planned for Saturday 29 May, starting at 11am, and on Monday 31 May, starting at 2pm.

For further information on how to participate call club coach Geoff Bennett on 01962 853745.
We are currently looking for a volunteer to represent Littleton on the Winchester Villages Trust. If you would like to find out more, please contact the Parish Clerk.
