Summer STEM camps are underway all across the Kansas City metro area.  Blue Springs School District's STEM Camp (pictured above) was held earlier this month. Nearly 80 middle school girls participated in the camp geared toward exposing more girls to STEM and building excitement for robotics and interest in Project Lead the Way classes. 
Summer STEM Camps Expose Area Students to Fun and Learning
KC STEM Alliance is proud to support summer learning through grants to area schools and community organizations.  Last week students at Argentine and Rosedale Middle Schools were treated to visits from engineers from Black & Veatch Engineering and Sporting Kansas City players including Connor Hallisey and  Tim Melia. Students also toured Sporting Park to learn more about the engineering of sports facilities during the one week camp. Watch the KCTV5 news segment here
STEM + Arts and Girl's App Camps Now Enrolling!
It's summer in Kansas City and that means a robust offering of STEM camps for kids of all ages across the metro. KC STEM Alliance will be partnering with several organizations to host the following camps this summer including:
  • Project Invent Camp: Robots, Legos, science and art -- all in one camp. Students will learn about science through exciting arts projects at this camp held at KC Young AudiencesLearn more
  • KCPowerSource Girl's App CampGirls App Camp is a week-long camp where students learn to develop their own applications for Android platform phones. Learn more

Today we welcomed 24 campers to the 5th Annual Get Into Energy Camp, sponsored by KCP&L and UMKC School of Computing and Engineering. The three day workshop, which takes place at the KC Engineering Zone, will help students explore careers in engineering and learn about energy. More Information

PLTW Student Engineers Learn the Ropes of Entreprenuership

A group of 10 recent high school graduates received one-on-one mentoring from local business professionals about the marketability of their award-winning engineering ideas at a workshop earlier this month held at the KC Engineering Zone hosted by KC STEM Alliance, KCSourceLink and CEED. The students were winners from the PLTW Senior Showcase engineering contest and were offered the opportunity to share their prototypes with mentors and learn the basics of bringing their winning ideas to market during the one-day workshop. Read More
Interested in FIRST Robotics? 

KC FIRST is hosting free informational workshops on two dates this summer for those interested in learning more about the FIRST suite of programs. The workshops will be held on June 20th and August 1st and will describe in detail what it is like to coach a FIRST team, be it Jr. FIRST LEGO League, FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Tech Challenge, or FIRST Robotics Competition.
