Latest News From ISNZ
ISNZ regularly introduces new themes for our Seminars/Webinars responding to the needs of our schools. We have a few Professional Development opportunities you need to look out for.
We have just launched the International Education Open House in light of the international students re-entering New Zealand.

The ISNZ International Education Open House will provide an opportunity for those responsible for leading international education programmes in independent schools to meet and connect with colleagues and share ideas and best practice.
The format of the day will include visits to five Christchurch independent schools, where delegates will experience how different schools are managing various aspects of their international programmes. We’ll also hear updates from the Schools International Education Business Association (SIEBA), get an agent’s perspective on how independent schools can build productive and mutually beneficial agent relationships, and explore steps that people who are new to the role should consider, enabling them to hit the ground running – things to think about, where to go and what to look at. The Open House presents a great opportunity to re-establish existing, and build new, relationships with others who work in international education in independent schools from around New Zealand.
ISNZ has also launched a Leadership for Middle Leaders Course partnering with Wellington Uni-Professional of Wellington and Queensland Educational Leadership Institute (QELi). This course is for independent school middle leaders working in primary and secondary school settings who are ready to take the next step in their career pathways. Whether you are aspiring to be a team leader, assistant or deputy principal, or just want to develop capabilities within your current leadership role, this programme will provide a closer exploration of the knowledge and skills to effectively lead others. Download more information here.
ISNZ is pleased to introduce the Principals Shadowing Programme, designed to give Aspiring Principals (Aspirants) in ISNZ member schools the opportunity to observe and follow established independent school Heads and Principals. Aspirants will gain insights into the requirements and reality of school leadership in an independent school. Applications will open soon!
Please read on to learn more about our Professional Development opportunities, and to see what our member schools have achieved in the last month.

ACG Sunderland: Essential Values for a Modern Education
While parents play a significant role in forming a child’s moral compass and sense of ethics, teachers also strongly influence the emerging values system of many young people. This symbiotic partnership was perfectly described by Martin Luther King Jr., who once said, “Intelligence plus character — that is the goal of true education.”

Lockdown hobby becomes Guinness World Record
While some teenagers hopped on the banana bread and sourdough-making frenzy, or finally had time to watch that new show on Netflix during the Covid lockdown, Saint Kentigern College student Alex Blong catapulted himself into a league of his own. What may have started as a boredom buster tactic, the hours spent watching Snowpiercer on Netflix ended up being the catalyst to a world record.

During Summer Tournament Week the St Andrew’s College Boys’ 1st XI hockey team played a strongly competitive Westlake Boys’ High School in the final of the Rankin Cup in a very closely fought game for the national title.
After maintaining a nil-all score at full-time, the St Andrew’s boys lost in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out to place second in New Zealand, an incredible achievement. The boys showed great sportsmanship and impressed the onlookers with their composure under pressure.
