Call for proposals—student symposium

The Lives and Afterlives of Objects

Submission Deadline: Apply now through April 16, 2021
Remote Symposium Dates and Format: Spring quarter, date TBD; possible hybrid synchronous and asynchronous format

The Feitler Center for Academic Inquiry at the Smart Museum of Art invites proposals for its 2021 remote student symposium, “The Lives and Afterlives of Objects.” This symposium centers on the intertwined themes of material culture, life cycles, and the passage of time. While the conference takes the exhibition Lust, Love, and Loss in Renaissance Europe as its point of departure, we hope to bring together studies on various time periods, geographies, and disciplines, concerning objects ranging from the high arts to the items of everyday life.

How to submit your proposal

Applicants should e-mail a 200–250-word abstract to Stephanie Reitzig by Friday, April 16, 2021. Please note whether you are an undergraduate or graduate student in the body of the e-mail. Successful applicants will be notified by April 23. We will provide further information about the format and date of the symposium at that time.
