Capital grants for business clusters and community groups

Groups and partnerships across Belfast are being given the opportunity to apply for capital grants worth £10,000 - £25,000 to enhance their local areas, thanks to the extension of a Belfast City Council grant scheme.

The Business Cluster and Community Grant is open to applicants from any Belfast-based business cluster, community organisation, charity or social enterprise that wishes to carry out environmental improvement projects.
The scheme, which first opened in December 2020, has now been extended thanks to an additional £300,000 funding from the Department for Communities' Covid-19 Revitalisation Programme.

Councillor David Brooks, Chair of Belfast City Council’s City Growth and Regeneration Committee, said: “As part of our efforts to stimulate the city during the pandemic, these grants are a welcome boost, helping to regenerate our local areas and, in turn, support businesses.

“We know that all parts of the city have suffered due to the impact of Covid-19, so we’re really keen to see proposals that will help increase footfall and boost expenditure in local areas. £150,000 of the total budget will be allocated to city centre-based organisations who were unable to apply for the first tranche of the scheme.
“We look forward to receiving proposals for capital projects including public realm improvements, parklets, lighting schemes, shop front enhancements, new street furniture, planters, hand sanitisation stations and other improvements.”

Communities Minister Deirdre Hargey said: “As the health pandemic continues to impact on everyone’s lives I am delighted that this grant scheme has been extended. This additional funding will help deliver tangible support in creating a safer environment for all as we continue to meet the challenges of the pandemic.”

Successful applicants will receive grant funding on a first-come first-served basis until the funding pot has been fully awarded. The deadline for applications is 4pm on 1 February 2021.

Breaking the infection cycle… Re Covid -19 disinfection 30-day treatment.

We are specialising in high level disinfection of buildings. The system is micro particle fogging, a very fine mist applied in a dry state. Safe with computers, paper and electronics. Safe and nontoxic in kitchens and dining areas. We are supported with COSHH and laboratory performance data for the products and procedures used.

During the application we open commonly used items that are easily accessible like fridges, microwaves, key & broom cupboards to expose Covid to the disinfection. Some dust disruption will be caused by the power of the fogging. We use two machines, a revolving standing unit and a mobile unit to ensure complete access and speed of application. This strategy ensures a comprehensive aerosol coverage and miniscule detail coverage. With 2 units working simultaneously we can cover the area of a tennis court in an hour, it typically takes between 1 to 3 hours to complete a treatment. If well ventilated the building can be re-entered in 1 hour. Charged at £100 (plus VAT) per hour per unit working inclusive of materials and 7 days a week call out. To put it in perspective traditional hand cleaning would take 10 times longer and is still not as comprehensive.

The product we use (Sterizar) will kill Covid 19 immediately on contact and will continue to work on non-porous surfaces for up to 30 days. After our treatment normal Covid precautions and cleaning routines need to be observed as friction and handling will wipe off the treatment.
We are currently treating actual instances of Covid and doing preventive treatments in schools, doctor’s surgeries, banks, gyms, laboratories, offices, places of worship, farms, pubs and hotels.

Description: The MID SICAP Programme 2018-2022 will provide supports for self-employment as follows; “Goal 2 Action 4: Supporting Self Employment: To support those most distanced from the labour market to explore the option of self-employment and support those with viable business ideas to start their own business” SICAP self-employment supports are targeted at unemployed individuals considering self-employment as an option. Supports take the form of group information sessions, group training, one to one mentoring, support with accessing the Department of Social Protection’s Back to Work Enterprise Allowance Schemes (BTWEA/STEA) and follow up supports to new businesses. Throughout 2021, subject to adequate funding and demand from unemployed individuals, MID proposes to host a number of “Planning for Self Employment” training courses (15 hours in duration). It is proposed that each course will be delivered in three-hour sessions (10am- 1pm) over a three-week period. This training is specifically aimed at unemployed individuals who have identified a business idea. The training aims to: • Inform participants of what is involved in setting up and running a business • Help participants to evaluate their business idea • Guide participants in completing a business plan for their proposed venture • Inform participants of how the self-employed taxation system works, their obligation to Revenue, invoicing, and the basics of maintaining records of business accounts.
