Home Repair Happy Ending: CAAR Volunteers Spend Two Days Painting House for Belmont Family
A rehab happening as part of AHIP's target-area project work in the Belmont neighborhood got a major boost from volunteers last week. Members of the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors spent two days painting the exterior of a home built in 1915 and owned by the Hernandez family for the past 23 years. We are thrilled to host CAAR as our second volunteer event since pausing the program in mid-March due to COVID-19. Our realtor and home builder partners are essential to keeping our neighbors safe and preserving homes and neighborhoods. Watch NBC29's coverage and CBS19's coverage of this story.

Make a Difference in AHIP's Year-round Safe at Home Efforts
AHIP's construction progress in the first two months of the new fiscal year has been fierce! We have completed or are in the process of completing 17 emergency repairs toward our annual goal of 60 and are working on 7 rehabs toward our annual goal of 20. Our donors make it possible to carry out each and every repaired roof, plumbing fix, wheelchair ramp, and much more. Be part of our ongoing efforts to keep our neighbors safe and living in affordable homes. Donate and learn more at Thank you!
Reminder: The CARES Act provides for a special deduction for charitable contributions up to $300 to benefit both taxpayers and nonprofits. Any gift amount stays right in your own community to help more seniors, kids, and people with disabilities stay safe and preserve and protect their homes.

Did you know that non-white homeowners have been found to pay 10-13 percent higher property taxes? According to research published earlier this summer by the Washington Center for Equitable Growth, misevaluation practices in local property tax assessments disproportionately impact non-white homeowners and saddle the median Black or Hispanic homeowner with $300-$390 more in property taxes each year compared to their white counterparts. Read more details and a link to the research report here.
