VCC International Newsletter - September 2020

Welcome new students, and welcome back all students!

The International Education (IE) Department would like to welcome all new students and returning students to the 2020-21 school year.  We have over 350 new international students beginning their studies at VCC, and over 1200 returning studies this Fall. We know that this school year will look a bit different for you, but just know that we are here to support you!

Zoom Advising Sessions


Although we cannot see VCC international students in person at this time, we want to continue to keep in contact with you using zoom!

Online Advising for Current VCC Students - Every Tuesday at 2 pm and Thursday at 9 am
Chat with our international student advisors about any topic you have in mind. Advisors can share tips on staying busy and healthy while remaining at home, tips on how to study online, and share available VCC resources. Click the Zoom meeting - Tuesday at 2pm / Thursday at 9am to register.

Online Immigration Advising - Every Monday at 9 am
Get your immigration questions answered!  Topics include study permit, co-op work permit, off-campus work eligibility, and post-graduate work permit. Click the Zoom meeting - Monday at 9am to register.

Please be sure to update your personal information in your myVCC account so you do not miss any important e-mails, phone calls, or mail from the College.

Log in to your myVCC account and select "Edit Personal Information" to:
  • Update your phone number
  • Update your mailing address
  • Update your e-mail address
  • Update your emergency contact

Pay your fees with Flywire

VCC has partnered with Flywire to offer overseas international students different options to make tuition payments. Tuition payments made through Flywire may be received faster at VCC and payment receipts are available immediately after payment. To find out more information on how to pay through the Flywire payment portal, please click here.  Please note that we do not accept wire transfers.
Changing Institutions: International Student Responsibilities

Have you moved from another post-secondary institution to VCC? If yes, be sure to notify Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). Visit the IRCC website for instructions on how to transfer your institution.

Medical Insurance in BC

Did you know that all residents in BC, including international students, who are here for more than 6 months are required to apply for the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP)?  If you have not applied already, you must do so right away by visiting the MSP website. You may need to purchase private medical insurance to cover you during the first three months of your arrival before your MSP coverage comes in effect in the fourth month.

The British Columbia Council of International Education (BCCIE) has put together a series of videos for international students to introduce them to living in BC.  The topics include: BC's regions, BC education system, living in BC, and health & safety.
