Dear members,
We have some exciting developments from the Government Advocacy Committee; both updates on our progress, and how you can be involved in the following areas:
  • Bushfire assistance for brewers from NSW Government
  • Invitation to attend Parliament House event
  • Pre-Budget submission

Bushfire Assistance
The advocacy committee has been working with the NSW Government on your behalf over the last six months on a comprehensive industry strategy to help grow the NSW Independent Brewing Industry.

Understandably, the national tragedy of the bushfires has diverted the Government's attention away from industry growth to helping those affected so this has delayed the launch of the NSW strategy.  However, we are still working closely with the NSW Government and they have indicated that there is a desire to help the industry recover if any independent brewers or suppliers to independent brewers have been affected by the bushfires.

So if you or someone you know in the independent brewing community has been affected (in NSW or otherwise) then please get in touch with by email so we can take this feedback to the Government to see how they can incorporate this into the overall strategy or find funding to directly help those businesses.

Parliament House Event
We're also planning a Parliamentary Friends event in late February at Parliament House to showcase independent beer to Ministers, Senators and their staff. The purpose is to provide an opportunity for key stakeholders in the government to learn about the independent brewing sector and more importantly, for us to share our industry growth story and our vision to grow to 15% of the Australian beer market by 2025.
We are looking for half a dozen breweries to get involved by attending the event in Canberra and showcasing their beer and sharing their individual story. If we get more responses than available places we will be selecting breweries to showcase breweries from the broadest range of electorates to ensure a strategic spread around the country.

Register your interest below if you'd like to attend and participate.

Budget Submission
In December we made a comprehensive pre-budget submission to the Federal Treasurer making the case for supporting the independent brewing industry. We are asking for the creation of a comprehensive independent brewing strategy, in addition, to support for further education and fairer tax for independent beer. We will be following this up directly with MPs and Senators from both sides to gain advocates for our cause, including at the Parliament House event above.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at

Best regards,
Peter Philip
