District Director Elections

It's time again for chapter elections. This year, there are open positions for the eight District Directors. To fill these positions, we are appealing to members who would like to be more involved in chapter activities, who have some time for volunteer service, and who have creative ideas for furthering the cause of good planning in all areas of the state, both rural and urban. The application process is now open, and all nominations must be received by the end of the day May 15. If you would like to know more about running for the position, contact Tim Gladhill, President.

APA Spring Seminar

Join us Thursday April 20th for the APA Minnesota Spring Seminar’s first ever walking mobile workshop! On this exclusive mobile tour, you will spend an afternoon exploring a variety of project sites along the Green Line in St. Paul and learn details on the deals that created the sites' redevelopment. Minnesota Planning Awards

The Annual APA-Minnesota Chapter Planning Awards offer a great opportunity to recognize outstanding projects and people who have contributed to the planning profession. The awards will be given at the Planners Conference in Mankato on September 27-29, 2017. Submissions for the planning award categories are due by May 5, 2017, and student project and scholarship submissions are due by June 2, 2017. Ethics Presentation

Bring a lunch and join your colleagues for Ethical Decision Making and Comprehensive Planning, a presentation by Law and Political Science Professor David Schultz on Tuesday, April 18th 12-1:30pm at WSB offices, 701 Xenia Ave S, Suite 300, Minneapolis, MN 55416.

This talk examines the ethical and legal issues involved in the development and construction of comprehensive plans.  Attendees will explore ethical problems raised in the comp planning process and discuss ways to address them in light of the AICP Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. 1.5 CM Ethics Credits are available. Minnesota Planners at NPC17

NPC17 will be held May 6-9 in New York City, and registration is open through April 6. A meetup for Minnesota planners is in the works, to be held at the High Line. Registered members will receive an email with further information. Contact Tim Gladhill with any questions.

Planners' Day at the Capitol

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Planners Day at the Capitol. There was a great tour of renovated capital, and a great working session in reviewing parallels between several peer professional organizations' Legislative Platforms. Our chapter is taking a more proactive role in testifying for good legislation at the State Capitol. Learn more about our platform here.

CM Grace Period Ends 5/31

The 2015-16 CM reporting period ended on December 31, but there's still time to earn and log required CM credits through May 31. Don't miss this deadline! If you do, your AICP membership will lapse and require reinstatement before you can resume using the AICP credential.

Transportation Careers Webinar

Twins Game Event

On June 21, APA Minnesota will be going to Target Field to see the Twins battle the Chicago White Sox. There will be a gathering at the Loop Bar beginning at 5:15 pm – first pitch is at 7:10 pm. Ticket price ($28) includes game ticket and appetizers. Reserve your ticket by emailing Lisa Wittman.

Affordable Housing Workshop

Affordable Housing: Tools and Financing Mechanisms workshop will be held April 13, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Roseville Skating Center in Roseville. Attendees of this workshop will leave with increased knowledge of programs for the new construction, rehabilitation, and preservation of both owner-occupied and multifamily affordable housing that can support more focused and effective housing elements and implementation programs within their comprehensive plans. Community Engagement Workshop

Registration is open for an Interactive Community Engagement Workshop with James Rojas on April 25, 9:00-11:00 AM at the Wilder Foundation Auditorium, 451 Lexington Parkway, St. Paul. This is a second presentation (repeat) of the previous workshop due to the level of interest. CM | 2.0

PSO Award

Congratulations to the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities Planning Student Organization (PSO), winner of APA’s 2017 Outstanding PSO Award! This award program recognizes the exciting and creative activities carried out by PSOs that enliven student life, contribute to their communities, and connect to APA Chapters and Divisions. These planning student organizations will be recognized at the 2017 APA National Planning Conference in New York for their accomplishments. Awards in each category will include a monetary contribution by sponsoring APA divisions to school's PSO to fund its activities.
