Pukllay - time of fertility and abundance.
The fields are full of flowers. The exuberance of cultivated gardens in this time of rain has transformed the landscape into a marvelous spectacle of color -- as a gigantic tapestry with geometric designs. Fertility is in its full expression. All beings are celebrating this time. The pasñas, maidens and maqtas, gallants, will show off their best dress. The adornment takes central importance so to attract their lovers who will value the exquisiteness of the textiles as proof of the appreciation of beauty in life. It is time to publicly introduce our partner -- dancing, singing bind everything together in bloom, in the midst of the rains, and with that we help the telluric force in its important mission of life.
To the rhythm of flutes and high-pitched women’s voices surrounded in jokes, youth start with freedom to learn about and understand union, and the importance of loyalty and respect, foundational values to consolidate any communion. All of this always takes place in a spontaneous atmosphere, free from any moralistic pressure, as it is in nature, wild and joyful. It is there where the encounter between youth happens. “Pukllay”: the game. This life is only a game, and we need to know how to play it with passion, intensity and always ready for surprises and love.
