Dear Gonzaga Moms,
Here we are, two weeks into the school year and already so much is happening on Eye Street. We hosted an Olympic themed luncheon for our faculty at the Welcome Back Faculty Lunch.  Our wonderful Chairs, April Egge, Kristina Gill and Denise Siciliano, set the tone for  "A Year Of Olympic Achievements" with a festive international décor, a delicious lunch, and fun raffle prizes for the faculty.   Thank you to all of the volunteers who assisted that day and those who donated prizes.

We have welcomed new students and their parents to Eye Street with a lovely evening on campus at the New Families Welcome Picnic. Thankfully, the weather cooperated, Eye Street looked festive, and the food was delicious. Many thanks to our wonderful Chairs, Kim Howland and Josie Militello, the GFC and the team of volunteers for organizing such a fun event and welcoming our new families in true Gonzaga style.

Our Back to School Night Chairs, Maura Cardellicchio, and Kelly Schuler, provided food and beverages for our parents during the evening of meetings. Thanks to Maura and Kelly, and our GMC volunteers and Eagle's Wings parents who assisted that night.

Bake Sales are scheduled for the year thanks to the hard work of Susan Marcille and the planning for the gala, “Nutcracker Suite on Eye Street is in full swing with the guidance of Kathy Kirvan, Andrea Mellado and Kimberly Notarianni.  While each of these events are special and unique, they all highlight the GMC's mission to support the entire Gonzaga community of parents, faculty, staff, and students.  We greatly appreciate your hard work, enthusiasm, and giving spirit. Thank you!

New This year!
If you have not yet heard, we are running the first ever $25,000 Cash Raffle to benefit Gonzaga.  Tickets are $100 each and ONLY 1,000 will be sold. Therefore you have a 1 in 1,000 chance to win $25,000 CASH. Tickets will be on sale at all GMC events as well as football games. Or you can complete an application online at $25,000 raffle. You don’t want to miss out on this one. The odds are in your favor.

Did You Know
In keeping with “The Year of Mercy”, this summer all students and faculty read Bryan Stevenson’s, Just Mercy. This book is a very touching story of an attorney’s efforts to aid those less fortunate who are caught in the criminal justice system. It shares Stevenson’s personal experiences and how they changed his understanding of mercy and justice. It is an easy read and a great way to stay current with what is being discussed on Eye Street.  Furthermore, Bryan Stevenson will be coming to speak to the in February.  What a treat!

Let’s get together!
I hope that you will be able to come to campus for the first GMC General Membership meeting on Wednesday, September 14 in the Lower Commons at 6:30 pm for social time with a light dinner and 7:00 pm for the meeting start.  Father Planning, our moderator, will be sharing some interesting and useful information about what's happening on Eye Street.  The Nutcracker Suite on Eye Street Gala merchandise and $25,000 raffle tickets will be available for purchase, as well as fun prizes for attendees, too.

Since you are receiving this email, you have already joined the GMC -- thank you!  Mia DeWitt, our Membership Chair, has been doing a fabulous job with membership so far, but you can help by reminding your friends to renew their GMC membership each year.  They can join online with the link below or by coming to the GMC meeting, so ask a friend to join us on September 14th -- they will not want to miss it!

Please see below for details about upcoming GMC events and activities, contact the event Chairs if you are able to volunteer or need more information.  And a big thank you to Irene Zaso, our Communications Chair, for publishing this E-newsletter.
Hope to see you Wednesday,

Laura Brockwell
