Director's Message

In 2015 CEPAR really hit its straps as a centre delivering excellent research with genuine impact. 

And in 2015, two Government reports provided a focus for how Australia will support its ageing population. more

Chief Investigator Michael Sherris describes CEPAR Longevity and Retirement Financing Research at a workshop on Recent Advances in Actuarial Mathematics held at the BANFF International Research Station for Mathematical Innovation and Discovery in October . Video here

Associate Investigator Cagri Kumru and Research Fellow George Kudrna organised a Workshop on Retirement Income Modelling on 9 December, featuring Ayse Imrohoroglu,  University of Southern California, and Sagiri Kitao, Keio University. The full Program and Abstracts of presented papers are here. 

Chief Investigator Kaarin Anstey was a featured speaker at a Dementia Intervention symposium on 3 December,  hosted by The Wicking Dementia Research and Education Centre, University of Tasmania.  

Women facing poverty in older age is due in part to low superannuation balances, said Associate Investigator Hazel Bateman at a COTA event in South Australia. more 

Research Fellow Dr Lu Bei accompanied a delegation from China's Ministry of Finance Social Security Department to Canberra in November.  The visit, co-hosted by CEPAR and The World Bank, provided delegates with insight into the Australian welfare system.

The latest CEPAR Working Papers are:
Chief Investigator Peter McDonald contributes to a special issue of East Asia Forum on Asia's Intergenerational Challenges. In Growing Old Before Growing Rich he looks at declines in mortality and fertility while noting Australia's fertility rate means it stands out regionally as a country with a growing supply of younger workers.

Bringing Research to Life: ERA 2015
The 14th Emerging Researchers in Ageing Conference showcased over 40 papers across a range of disciplines and issues. CEPAR PhD candidates Jeofrey Abalos and Natasha Ginnivan (above) highlighted their research in the Cultural diversity session, both examining aspects of ageing in Filipino communities.more
2015 Summer Scholarships  
CEPAR's inaugural Summer Scholarship program is a new opportunity for undergraduate students to work with one of our research teams for twelve weeks, supervised by a CEPAR researcher. more
