Fordham University Updates:

Happy June to our PMMA Cohort!


Capstone Projects: By now, every PMMA student doing their capstones in the summer of 2021 should have met with their capstone advisor to lay out a plan for the project.  If anyone has failed to reach out to their mentor, then please do so immediately.
Capstones must be finished before Summer Session II ends: Friday, August 6

Each student will have 5 minutes to present the list of his/her/their capstone. Half of the cohort will present each night. More information coming soon.

2020 & 2021 Graduates, Please order cap & gown at your earliest convenience to allow for shipping time: You should have received an email about the graduation ceremony with a link to order your cap & gown. While it is not obligatory that you order a cap and gown, we suggest that you do. Please be sure to order the Masters robe if you do order. It doesn't matter which campus you pick.

For those of you with outstanding grades of INCOMPLETE, please contact your professors this week if you haven't already to lay out a plan for finishing your work.  GSAS will not permit students with Incompletes to graduate, and may not permit such students to participate in our July 31st graduation ceremony.

COVID testing precautions for the Spring semester require students to have a negative COVID-19 test prior to being allowed on campus.
  • if you are in New York or in a state contiguous to New York (Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Vermont), you must have negative test results within seven days prior to your arrival at Fordham
  • if you are in a state that is NOT contiguous to New York (including if outside of the United States), you must have a test 3 days prior to your departure AND a test on day 4 to opt out of the 10-day New York state travel quarantine; you must also complete the Fordham Quarantine Form

The Nation Fund: Student Journalism Conference

The virtual conference produced and hosted by The Nation will be free for all accepted applicants. The day will feature interactive workshops, panel discussions, breakout sessions, video screenings, professional advice, and a subscription to The Nation. 

In a cover letter of not-more-than 250 words, tell us where you’re from, where you go to school and why you want to attend this student journalism conference. Please include one published piece of journalism. (A reported piece from a class is also eligible.) All material should be in Microsoft Word (.doc, .docx) format.

Graduate Students and Recent Alumni: Submit Your Achievements Today!

GSAS invites students and recent alumni to report their achievements for recognition in a University-wide report. Students are invited to think broadly and creatively about their recent accomplishments, which may have taken place in virtual and in-person spaces alike. Academic and professional achievements may include, but are not limited to:

  • Academic and professional conference participation 
  • Professional publications (including original articles in peer reviewed journals, book reviews, literary pieces, and encyclopedia articles)
  • Scholarships, grants and fellowships that support research and professional development
  • Professional occupations (e.g., an internship, externship, part- or full-time position that enhances one’s skills and fulfills career goals)

American Resilience Project presents: Faces of American Resilience - What does resilience mean to you?

For the first-ever student storytelling contest, Fordham University Gabelli School of Business and the American Resilience Project present an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to answer this question by telling a story on-camera. 

Winners will receive career mentoring, opportunities, and participation in the productions through ARP. They will also be featured in placement on ARP's website and other marketing/fundraising materials as an American Resilience Project Student Fellow.

"Changing the Conversation/Conversations about Change": NY State Communication Association's call for Journalism Stories
Annual conference in October 2021
Deadline for submissions: July 7


This year's theme is "Changing the Conversation/Conversations about Change" and out keynote speakers are Dr. Whitney Phillips (Syracuse University) and Dr. Brenda Hoffman (Stony Brook University).

Student paper submissions will be considered for top paper awards. We are also accepting student poster submissions, panel proposals, works-in-progress, and audio/visual shorts.Undergraduate submissions are also welcome and eligible for top paper awards. And, we, of course, welcome faculty submissions.

The NYSCA conference is a welcoming environment for students, including those new to conferencing. And, for 79 years it has served to encourage human communication scholarship and education in the greater New York State area, making it a robust forum for established scholars, as well.

American Archive of Public Broadcasting

The American Archive of Public Broadcasting (AAPB) is a collaboration between the Library of Congress and the Boston public media producer GBH to coordinate a national effort to preserve public media content and provide a central web portal for access to the unique programming that public stations have aired over the past 70+ years.

The American Archive of Public Broadcasting is now added to the library's Database list. It can be found in the A alpha tab, Communications subject box and Open Access tab under the multimedia heading.

Ignatian Spirituality and Yoga
Mondays & Tuesdays at 7PM

Ignatian Spirituality and Yoga offers a quiet and reflective opportunity to pray with your body in a most holy and sacred space. It weaves the art and practice of movement, reflection and meditation, and spiritual exercise. Weather permitted, Ignatian Spirituality and Yoga will sometimes be held on the Church Lawn or the Lincoln Center Plaza.  It will be available weekly, however, through Zoom.

Fordham GSAS Job Opportunity: Student Professional Development GA Position
Summer 2021 and Academic Year 2021-2022 Hours: 19 hours/week

The Office of Student Professional Development seeks a Graduate Assistant with a passion for exploring issues and trends in higher education and the graduate school experience alongside a desire to support the successful implementation of several special events throughout summer 2021 and the 2021 - 2022 academic year. Institute of General Semantics Paid Internship for PMMA Student
Academic Year 2021-2022 

This internship opportunity is for the 2021-2022 school year, extending into the summer. The commitment is 19 hours a week, and student will have to aid in person event October 1-3.

To assist the IGS president, student will be given variety of tasks and initiative, and should be responsible, have strong organizational skills and good communication skills.

GSAS Hourly Worker for Professional Development
Academic Year 2021-2022 

We are looking for one graduate student to work with our project during the AY 2021-2022. The
graduate student will help manage the continued curation of the archive and WordPress sites, will
make specific video and audio edit requests for the clips and interviews in our collection, and will implement findings in helping to manage and run the social media feeds that are the main public outreach arm for the BIAHI project. The worker will have the ability to do their own creative products with the archive if they so choose.

Success Academy, New York City's largest charter school network, is hiring teachers for the 2021-22 academic year and is very interested in hiring graduating Fordham students,  They recently hired one of our CMS graduates, and now they are looking for other Fordham students to join their classrooms.  No teaching experience required.

Success Academy Charter Schools is the largest and highest-performing free, public charter school network in New York City. Admission is open to all New York State children, including those with special needs and English language learners. Students are admitted by a random lottery held each April. Success Academy operates 47 schools serving 20,000 students in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx. Across the network, 78% of students are from low-income households; 8.5% are current and former English Language Learners, and 15% are current and former special needs students.

Parkinson's Foundation Opportunity: Communications Intern
Summer Internship: June 2021- August 2021

 

The Parkinson’s Foundation is looking for an exceptional undergraduate/graduate student to work directly with the communications team on an array of marketing and public relations projects. You will work with passionate professionals, learn first-hand how to apply best practices in communications and enjoy a real opportunity to make an impact on a debilitating disease.

Please commit to 20-25 hours a week. Start and end dates are flexible, but we ask that you commit to a 3 to 4-month internship timeframe for a summer internship. This position is paid and remote.
