Thursday night’s All-Beethoven gala with British pianist Stephen Hough and principal guest conductor Bernhard Gueller may be sold out, but there are still tickets for the dress rehearsal in aid of the youth orchestra at 11:00 on December 20. The CPO board, management and musicians would like to wish all concertgoers and CPO supporters a happy Christmas, Hannukah greetings and to all a safe, healthy and happy 2019. Thank you for being part of our family.  Remember that it’s not too late to give concert tickets as gifts to your friends and family!  
New Year would not be the same without Richard Cock and the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra ringing it in, Viennese style. Two concerts at the Cape Town City Hall at 15:00 and 19:00 on January 5 will feature soprano Hlengiwe Mkhwanazi and tenor Sipho Fubesi as the CPO waltzes or marches you down the Blue Danube. Works include the gorgeous overture from Die Fledermaus, the Brindisi from La Traviata, Lippen Schweigen from The Merry Widow, Dein is Mein Ganzes herz and Strauss father and son melodies to hum and sing. Read what WeekendSpecial says about the one and only Richard here. Host Rodney Trudgeon, conductor Brandon Phillips and the CPO will bring magic to the Maynardville Open-Air Festival for three nights in January at 20:15.  Bring your picnic and soak up the atmosphere as the CPO plays some of the most glorious music written to accompany plays and film in Famously Incidental, the CPO's tribute to incidental music. Three young conductors will give you a night of spirited talent as they compete, accompanying  three young prize-winning pianists, for the most prestigious of South African titles in the 4th Len Van Zyl Conductors’ Competition.
Congratulations to Adrian More for winning the Helgaard Steyn Award for composition. Adrian’s Piano Concerto was performed to great acclaim by Francois du Toit and the CPO in 2014.
