NEWMARKET, Ontario, June 4, 2018 - The Town of Newmarket is proud to launch its cycling safety video series Safety Starts with You. The Safety Starts with You video series is part of an overall Traffic Safety Campaign that features Newmarket’s safety mascots Safety Cone Sam and Belle the Bike. This video series will focus on bike safety and will be launched throughout the summer.
The first video, which made its debut at the most recent Moonlight Movies event, focuses on the importance of wearing a helmet when riding a bicycle. This video can be viewed online.
“Traffic safety is a top priority for Newmarket Council,” says Mayor Tony Van Bynen. “It is important that we continue to share messages about the importance of wearing a helmet, bike safety tips, and the rules of the road to ensure that we are all safety driven in Newmarket.”
As the weather begins to warm up, more cyclists will be travelling around Town on our bike lanes. Help ensure safety for all cyclists, motorists and pedestrians by following the rules of the road.
Please remember:
- Bike lanes are to be used for bicycles only. No other forms of transportation are permitted in bike lanes.
- Parking in a bike lane is not permitted
