November 2017 Lytton News

Dear members,

Yes, it's been a few months since you've all had a newsletter but for all the latest updates do make sure you follow us on Facebook, Instagram and twitter where information is regularly posted. We also have a private Member Group on Facebook where you can also get the chance to discuss anything you wish related to the theatre in this private forum. If you are not on this group, do let myself or membership manager, Debbie Woolley know and we can make sure you are added.

First of all, well done to the cast, crew and production team of Guys & Dolls, who pulled off a fabulous show at The Gordon Craig Theatre. The atmosphere there was incredible and it's always great fun for our society to perform there.

Off the back of this great, high-energy show, one of our cast has also been nominated for an award by our local NODA reviewer, Vicky Avery. We are proud to announce the following nominations for her Noscar awards coming up on the 18th November 2017:

Ross Edwards for Best Actor as The Lecturer in Reefer Madness The Musical

Gemma Davies for Most Colourful/Suitable Costumes for James and The Giant Peach

Maya Kantas for Young Performer of The Year as the Earthworm in James and The Giant Peach

Craig Prutton for Best Comedy Performance Solo as Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys & Dolls

In the midst of rehearsals for all our shows and events, in September we had our Annual General Meeting. As a result of the meeting we have a new appointment with Louise Edwards now taking on the role of the Lights Up Rep. Rehearsals are now under way for the show and you can also call the box office to reserve early tickets now if you wish!  Performances are from 24th-27th January 2018 including a matinee on Saturday.

The Chairman, Chris Hobbs, also discussed the importance of succession planning and bringing on younger active members into the management team. As part of this Chris announced that he would not be standing for Chairman next year when his position comes up for election. He would like to focus on our new theatre project and has found it difficult to do this and perform the duties of Chairman at the same time.

The remaining Exec members Linda Friis, Lorna Roberts and Dave Slade are also reviewing their positions but will stay in post until the end of their elected period. Lorna (Secretary) will be standing down the same time as Chris (Chairman) in September 2018 with Linda Friis (treasurer) standing down at the end of her term in September 2019. Dave Slade (Business Manager) has currently not made any decision as to what he will do.

As result of this, our theatre will be asking its current membership to consider taking on these roles as they become available. If anyone is interested in taking on any of these roles and would like to know more about what is involved please contact the current role holder directly.

Our Events Rep, Sharon Curtis has been very busy preparing another Christmas and New Year's Eve Party for our patrons. The Christmas Party will be taking place on the 9th December and the New Year's Eve on the obvious date. Tickets for both are available from the bar or from Sharon herself, and each ticket costs £8 for adults and £5 for those under 16. If you buy both tickets in advance Sharon is offering a special deal at £14 for adults and £8 for those under 16. There will be a buffet, music, and karaoke for both parties.

However, we as of yet have no volunteers to run the bar on New Year's Eve and so this may be cancelled. We are also still looking for more volunteers for the bar, front of house for our shows, and if you have any fire or health and safety certified training, do get in touch with us by replying to this email.

Finally, we have a very big announcement to make. Next year, The Stevenage Lytton Players will be celebrating its 70th birthday. To celebrate this, Sharon Curtis, along with Allie Neal and David Raphael are organising a Dinner Dance on the 9th June, 2018 at Hotel Cromwell, Stevenage (formerly known as The Cromwell Hotel). The cost of tickets will be £40 per head and the price includes a three course dinner. Please save the date, and do look out for further announcements of the details!

Thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter.

Kind regards

Jessie Marvell
Marketing Rep
