Bethany Christian Reformed Church,
Gallup, New Mexico,
is planning a major renovation
project in 2017.
The Bethany Church Council also recently approved installation of
Solar Panels In Conjunction With The Renovation. A group of investors is funding the project to take advantage of the Federal tax credit incentives.
The plan is to install approximately
100 solar panels on top of a car canopy. This Solar Carport will be located at the northwest corner of Bethany’s property adjacent to the Daycare Playground.
In addition to producing energy for
the church, the canopy will provide shade for the Daycare Playground
and shaded parking.
The canopy will be nicely landscaped improving the curbside appearance.
WHAT ARE THE DIMENSIONS?
The canopy will be approximately
54’ x 32’. It will be 9’ high at the south end and will slope upward to the
north at 15 degrees.
There Will Be No Utilities Disruption
In The Neighborhood During The Installation
WHO WILL INSTALL THE PANELS?
The structure and panels will be installed by Park’ n Shade, Inc. an Albuquerque company with 20 years experience.
WHEN WILL THE CONSTRUCTION BEGIN AND END?
The construction is anticipated to begin late summer, 2017. It should take about 3- 10 days (7am -7pm). There will be heavy equipment on site during the solar installation. It will be parked on church property when not in use.

WHY IS THIS PROJECT
IMPORTANT TO BETHANY?
Adding solar panels to the physical plant at Bethany is part of the
CLIMATE WITNESS PROJECT
of The Christian Reformed Church
in response to the Global Climate Change Crisis.
With the cost of utilities continuing to rise, the savings on electric power
will be substantial,
over $200,000 in 25 years.
WHAT ARE THE
Reduced carbon footprint.
Over the life of the system over
900 tons of co2 will be eliminated from Bethany’s footprint or the equivalent
of planting 21,000 trees.
Reducing gasoline consumption
by 96,000 gallons.
Recycling 2,900 tons of waste.
The environmental benefits will be multiplied if this project inspires other churches and non-profits to follow this model of investor supported solar installations.
