WORLDHOST2020 helps businesses get over that thorny problem of getting their people back to work aware of customer/client expectations and how they can help to meet them.
 
This is a short (60 minutes) ONLINE programme, certified and developed in collaboration with industry (People1st International, UK Hospitality, Visit Britain): it is a “kite mark” programme for Visit Britain/UK Hospitality.
 
It is applicable to any business that deals face to face with clients/customers.
 
At only £6 per head, it is great value and can be conducted on furlough.

Last week the government announced the approach to border controls on GB-EU trade in 2021 and it formally notified the EU that it will not accept or seek an extension to the Transition Period.
In recognition of the unprecedented impact that coronavirus has had on all aspects of life, border controls are being introduced in stages, to give businesses more time to prepare. The stages are:
  • From January 2021: Traders importing standard goods will need to prepare for basic customs requirements and will have up to six months to complete customs declarations. Tariff payments can be deferred until the customs declaration has been made. Traders moving controlled goods such as tobacco and toxic chemicals will be required to complete a customs declaration. Businesses will also need to consider how they account for VAT on imported goods. There will also be physical checks at the point of destination on all high-risk live animals and a proportion of low-risk live animals.
  • From April 2021: All products of animal origin (POAO) and all regulated plants and plant products will also require pre-notification and the relevant health documentation.
  • From July 2021: Traders moving all goods will have to make declarations at the point of importation and pay relevant tariffs. Full Safety and Security declarations will be required, while for Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) commodities there will be an increase in physical checks and the taking of samples.
This approach does not apply to the flow of trade between Northern Ireland and Ireland, or between Northern Ireland and GB.
To support businesses with the new processes taking effect next year, the government has developed a new £50m package to boost the capacity of customs intermediaries – including customs brokers, freight forwarders and express parcel operators – providing businesses with further support. This funding will support intermediaries with recruitment, training and supplying IT equipment to help handle customs declarations.
Rules will also be changed to remove barriers for intermediaries taking on new clients. The government intends to remove the financial liability from intermediaries operating on behalf of their clients and allow parcel operators to continue declaring multiple consignments in a single customs declaration. This will help intermediaries increase their operations.
Additionally, the government has committed to building new border facilities in Great Britain for carrying out required checks, as well as providing targeted support to ports to build new infrastructure. They are consulting with ports across the UK to agree what infrastructure is required.
This announcement is another important step towards getting the country ready for the end of the Transition Period, but there is still more work to be done by both government and industry to ensure we are prepared for January 2021.

This project is part funded by Invest Northern Ireland and the European Regional Development Fund under the Investment for Growth & Jobs Northern Ireland (2014-2020) Programme and is available to new start-up or existing businesses with a registered business address in the Lisburn and Castlereagh City area.

As businesses continue to develop their online presence during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Tourism Team at Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council are offering another four-week training course to offer support and guidance for the days ahead.

Aimed at the Tourism and Hospitality sector within the ABC area, this course is free and will cover topics including Google Analytics, developing a web presence, using SEO and SEM as well an introduction to blogging.

This customised online digital marketing training will run on Thursday morning 25th June at 10.00am.

The courses will last approximately two hours with plenty of opportunity for a question and answer session afterwards. To gain the full benefit of this sector specific training, it is recommended that you complete all four sessions – however you can also register for the courses individually.


All you need to get involved is either access to a laptop, PC, tablet or smartphone. You don’t need to have a microphone as you can type your questions which will then be added online. The training will be delivered by Emma Gribben, Digital by Emma, using GotoWebinar.

The Centre for Cross Border Studies, in collaboration with InterTradeIreland, is hosting a policy seminar which will explore the current provision of skills and the needs of employers on the Island of Ireland. The event will consider new and emerging skills sets, and will highlight policies implemented by Government departments in Ireland and Northern Ireland. There will be a particular focus on the provision in border counties and the requirements of businesses trading cross-border, with the view to discern potential areas for future collaboration.

HRI Racecourses Ltd. owns and operates Leopardstown, Fairyhouse, Navan and Tipperary Racecourses. Background to Requirement HRI have their websites and racing administration system hosted in a data centre for the past 5 years. The systems hosted consist of the following: • Shared infrastructure platform virtual servers • Co-located servers and network equipment The services provider is responsible for providing the infrastructure to host these systems and to ensure the network and physical security of the systems. The HRI IT team will be responsible for the applications hosted on each server, and the maintenance of updates etc. HRI are issuing this tender for a contract to host these systems for a duration of up to 10 years. Description: The aim of the Irish-Finnish collaboration project, Natural Future of Cosmetics (NACO), is to identify and address the industrial needs of rurally based cosmetic companies in both Ireland and Finland. Despite a high consumer demand in Europe for natural cosmetics, limited support structures can restrict rural SME’s competitiveness in this sector. In particular, the project will focus on supporting rural cosmetic SMEs whose products utilise natural extracts, sourced regionally or nationally, in each of the participating nations. Upskilling of, and knowledge transfer between, the participating partners and their respective SMEs will be a key aspect of the programme. The project will run as a collaboration with Finland and the successful applicant will help design a programme of targeted training, networking and innovation support activities. This will involve upskilling between the Irish and Finnish partners and the dissemination of existing and newly acquired knowledge/capabilities to their respective SME clients. The programme will be implemented over 2 years with the aim to increase the capabilities and connectivity of the companies in question, supporting their development and growth as well as stimulating innovation and enterprise in Irish and Finnish rural areas.
