'Alexa, delete everything I said': Amazon Echo to let users clear stored voice recordings

Privacy-conscious homeowners can now ask Alexa to erase their voice command history thanks to a new feature that comes with the latest version of the company's smart speaker.

Asking Alexa to “delete everything I said today” will wipe the history of the Echo Show 5, which is available in the US in June. Its UK launch date has yet to be confirmed.

Faced with shopper concerns about where the audio and video Alexa collects in homes around the world ends up, Amazon has also added a button that allows users to shut off the microphone and camera. It also has a built-in shutter to cover the camera.

Users were surprised to learn that the company listens to audio from all Echo devices including the millions of UK households that use Alexa.

It was previously believed that the “artificial intelligence” was automated.

It recently emerged that Amazon employees were able to listen back to and mocked things that customers were asking their devices, and sharing recordings in internal chat rooms.

Employees claimed to have heard a possible sexual assault which was accidentally recorded on an Echo device. They were also asked to review recordings of a woman singing in the shower and a child screaming for help, according to Bloomberg.

Those with older versions of the Echo can listen to and delete recordings through their account settings.

They are in the process of vetting, interviewing and hiring candidates for a new team of people over the next 3-6 months who will be their "Class of 2019/20" to grow their company and to teach and serve more people all over the UK including Northern Ireland.

The proposed candidates who will assist in Genistar's expansion have earning potential of either £500-£2,000 a month working part time within 6 to 10 hours a week or, for the most ambitious, transition to a full-time career with potential earnings of £50,000-£250,000 minimum over the next 12 to 18 months with a higher earning potential thereafter.

These candidates must be trustworthy, enthusiastic and very good with people.

No specific academic qualifications are necessary (although they are sometimes helpful) as they hire for attitude and they train for skills.
