An elder couple who had been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy could no longer care for their 28+ year old elder horse who they had had for 20+ years. They were considering euthanizing the horse and asked me to meet and I did. The owner felt very upset, but did not want the horse to fall into the wrong hands and she had read about Apifera. After meeting the horse, I felt she should come be with us, and I felt helping the old animal, and the elder people fit right into our mission. Upon arrival, we had the vet out and we took out four teeth and got her up to date on all her shots. Her name is Honey and the vet thinks she could be older than 28.

Opie is getting his own Love Mobile! I mentioned tot he care manager at one of the larger homes we visit that if I could get a wagon for Opie to stand on, it would help many of the residents pet Opie more easily since most are not limber in their wheelchairs. She loved that idea and said we can also roll him around the halls to visit bed bound people. I suggested that somedays Opie can bring his chicken, which she also liked. So, we gathered donations this week and ordered a wonderful wood cart, and Martyn will help me enhance it to make it fit our needs. I am so excited about this!

So many beautiful encounters this summer and fall between elders and animals. We have also been bringing individual elders tot he farm out of the elder homes when we are alerted to someone in need of animal therapy. And our second annual Misfit Love Day in October was once again a success for guests and Apiferians! Harry and his Haircut made his llama debut, and Arlo also did very well.
