The summer is ending,
but we are just getting started for the hot Autumn event season

As the days were slowly getting cooler in Shanghai, it was also time to say goodbye to some of our colleagues at swissnex China. However at the same time we were very happy to welcome our new Project Leader for Academic Relations: Jing Yuan.
After an exciting month packed with events and numerous visiting delegations, we are really looking forward to October now, which will offer a variety of great events – check it out!
New Project Leader Academic Relations - Jing Yuan
After 3 years at the Embassy of Switzerland in China, Jing Yuan is very excited to join swissnex China in Shanghai as Project Leader Academic Relations. With extensive knowledge of education landscapes of both Switzerland and China that she earned from previous experience, Jing Yuan looks forward to making continuous contributions to the  increasing exchanges in higher education sector between the two countries.

West Bund Pavilion, Shanghai

The World VR Forum is returning to Shanghai after holding the VR Summit at Coderbunker, Shanghai in June 2016, with an amazing Virtual Reality exhibition at the shining new West Bund Pavilion, supported by swissnex China and Pro Helvetia Shanghai.

For two weeks during the Golden Week Holiday, the pavilion at the river will celebrate the next generation of medium with different channels, such as exhibitions, social events, artists’ talks, and professional gatherings.

This exhibition will include four installations, in addition to a gamezone, and a VR cinema. It aims to show the reformative power of VR as a quality entertainment media using the latest forms of arts. Bringing VR out of the technology scene into the daily lives of Shanghainese people.

Medtech & Pharma Platform 2017
Basel, Switzerland, 26-27 October 2017
The Medtech & Pharma Platform 2017 is taking place in Basel, Switzerland on 26-27 October 2017. The Medtech & Pharma Platform is a non-profit association with the aim of capitalizing on the synergies between medtech and pharmaceutical industries. The main focus of this year’s event is Medical products and technologies for cutting-edge solutions, details here.
Collaborative Opportunities
The 2nd Sino-Swiss Healthcare Forum 2017, October 18, 2017, Zurich
At the Sino-Swiss Healthcare Forum, over 50 most creative entrepreneurs in China’s healthcare industry from Smart Healthcare Startup Programme launched by CEIBS and their Swiss counterparts will learn from the great minds from China and aboard and share their penetrating insights into the foundation and prospects for China-Switzerland cooperation in the healthcare industry, details here.
Swiss Stop - Setting out from west of China - Chinese New Reality Art

The Lucerne School of Art and Design counts one of China’s most important art colleges to its international partners: the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Chongqing. This autumn finds a delegation of Chinese students and lecturers coming to Europe with an exhibition; they will be stopping by at various places in Europe, as well as in Lucerne. Under the title “Swiss Stop – Setting out from West of China”, the wide-ranging exhibition features contemporary Chinese material which opens itself here to a reciprocal discourse. Venue here.

Discover the World of Excellence in Education

Hosted by the University of Neuchâtel, the swissnexDay’17 will be inaugurated by State Secretary Mauro Dell’Ambrogio. It will explore the strong links between the mobility of students and researchers and a country’s innovative capability. In two panel discussions, distinguished experts and high-level representatives of the Swiss education, research and innovation landscape will address the current and future challenges facing Switzerland in these fields. The participants will also have the opportunity to learn about the direct experience of some mobility success stories between the two discussion sessions, details here.

Swiss Learning China is to hold the annual event of 2017-2018 Academic Year on 31st October (Chengdu), 2nd November (Embassy of Switzerland, Beijing), and 4th November (Portman Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Shanghai). Founded in 2006 by a group of Swiss boarding school owners, Swiss Learning is dedicated to present the excellence of Swiss Education to the entire world. Register now, and you will have the chance to meet and talk with founder of Swiss Learning, representatives from top Swiss boarding schools and find out what education truly means.
China and Switzerland seek cooperation on vocational education 
On 8th September 2017, the Vice Minster of Ministry of Education of China, Mrs. LIN Huiqing was welcomed by Josef Widmer, Deputy Director of the State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation in Bern.

Switzerland's vocational and professional education system is very attractive to China, where a deep reform in this area is taking place in order to meet the increasing demand of skilled professionals. With the signing of the MOU of vocational and professional education between the State Secretary for Education, Research and Innovation and Ministry of Education of China, the cooperation between the two countries in this domain is expected to be further encouraged and facilitated.
Our Community
On 15th of September, the yearly alumni gathering organized by swissnex China in collaboration with Sorsa-Swiss Alumni Shanghai and Schindler Group was held. The participants had the chance to visit the impressive Schindler campus and listen to speeches about the demographic effects of the two child policy, a panel discussion of Swiss living in Shanghai, and a presentation of ICBC. In the evening, he participants were given the opportunity to do networking and exchange about their experiences in Shanghai.
swissnex China welcomed Daniel Gerber who is the head of innovations at Post in Switzerland. Due to the specific interest in IoT and the latest innovations we visited Huawai HQ here in Shanghai. Together with the deputy director of Huawei Jack Li we got an inside look in China’s top parking system solution, smart lighting, the fastest mobile internet technology 5G, smart roller washing technology as well as NB-IoT solutions for ofo bikes. 
Under the leadership of Barbara Nafzger and Christine Bieri Buschor, the Zurich University of Teacher Education (PH Zurich) delegation currently visited China. Similar as in previous years, it is a unique opportunity for the group to learn more about education in China, and how Chinese teachers instruct their students. swissnex China gave an in-depth overview of the school system in China and its challenges such as Gaokao. Gaokao is "life's most important test" - a two-day National College Entrance Examination that can arguably make or break one’s chances in life. For more details about PH Zurich, please click here
Patricia Enzmann was on a short sabbatical in Shanghai to explore ways to help Swiss companies expand in China by deploying new technologies. Her stay in Shanghai is supported by "Staff Mobility" program which allows intense immersion into the local network of peers. So far, about 30 sabbaticals have benefited from this program which is carefully curated by swissnex China with the result to strengthen the international network of Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW), one of the leading universities of applied sciences in Switzerland. World VR Forum (WVRF) is a Swiss based international organization, which brings together the best of virtual reality content and works with the most promising VR artists worldwide. Ellen Kuo from WVRF visits swissnex China to discuss potentials, as China is seen the second largest VR/AR market in the world. swissnex China and Pro Helvetia work together with WVRF on the "First Art Exhibition on VR". 
A delegtation of 45 members of the Executive MBA HSG - University of St. Gallen paid a visit to swissnex China and got an in-depth insight of the ecosystem in China. The highlight came when Dieter Voegtli, President of Bühler Group China & South East Asia, and Member of the Executive Board, gave a presentation based on his 20 years of experiences in China, which gave a valuable touch to the group's visit.
