Overcoming oxygen inhibition to insure good surface cure appears to be the single biggest challenge in LED curing applications. This is especially true for clear coatings where some of the most efficient photoinitiators, the thioxanthones, typically cannot be used because they are very yellow. In such applications, careful selection of the resin component can dramatically improve cure response.
RAHN has undertaken an evaluation of our oligomers in order to provide guidance on resin selection for LED applications. It is worth noting that reactivity when cured with a standard medium pressure mercury vapor lamp does not predict cure speed under a 385 nm or 395 nm LED lamp. Read more
