Week of July 1, 2018 – Teeny Tiny Blocks

Before I show you some quilts with teeny tiny blocks I want to remind you that Thursday, July 12 we will be starting our five-month Clothes Line Quilts Club.  We will be making a little quilt each month from Edyta Sitar’s book Little Handfuls of Scraps.  You still have time to sign up and join us which I hope you do, so we can have fun together.

Today’s quilts all have blocks that are teeny tiny.  This first one has little HST-Half Square triangles that are 1/2” and the full size of the quilt is 12” x 12”.  I leave it hanging on a special table top rack so that I can look at it often.  It really isn’t that difficult to make things miniature. I must remind myself that just because it is little doesn’t mean that I will finish it in an hour or two.  It can take about as long to make it as it would if this were a 48” x 48” wall hanging.  But it’s worth it to end up with a little treasure.

This next quilt I purchased at Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum gift shop.

It was made by Mary Lyon in 2008.  It came framed which is a good reminder that you don’t always have to quilt and bind miniature quilts.  This one is matted in white and framed in black which makes it look wonderful.  I like it hanging on the wall to be admired daily.  Each little Pineapple block measures 2 1/8” and has 31 pieces in it.  The center square looks like it is made with a shiny gold fabric and the rest of them are cottons.  It makes an interesting secondary pattern because of the color placements, rather than having each block be identical.

The last little framed quilt is also a Mary Lyon from 2001.  The quilt measures 5.5” x 6.5”.  It is made up of Log Cabin blocks which contain   continue reading..
